Scrapbook 2013 – Timothy Burkhart

Going through a years worth of photos is a lot harder than I thought and I don’t know how I’m supposed to follow Harrison’s gallery, but I guess I’ll give it a go. This past year was a weird one for me, I stayed pretty local to the midwest and traveled less in 2013 than I have in a long long time. Despite the lack of travel, there was a ton of stuff going on in Chicago and the midwest to keep me busy at all times. I got to take care of photographic duties for The Bakery as well go on a few small trips with some friends, from the Defgrip on UP trip to heading down to Texas Toast. I’m always looking for something to photograph and find a reason to wander around on my lunch break at work or take a cruise on my bike around the city. Here is a gallery of some random photos from throughout the year, shot with a mix of 35mm, medium format and digital. READ MORE

Welcome Timothy Burkhart

We’re happy to announce that Chicago based photographer & rider Timothy Burkhart will be joining us here at Defgrip.

We happened to come in contact with Timothy one day, and one thing lead to another. We found that we had similar interests and bringing him on board worked out naturally. Timothy has been a fan of the site for some time, has a BFA in photography/studio art, is currently handling photo duties for The Bakery and carries too many cameras. He knows what we’re about and we look forward to having his posts in the mix.

Follow Timothy on Tumblr and  Instagram.

People vs. Places

Timothy Burkhart hit us up to let us know about a project he’s been working on with fellow photographer Stephanie Bassos called People vs. Places

“This double exposure project allows us to step back from having full control of the image making process and trust in one another while allowing coincidences to happen naturally on film. Stephanie exposes a full roll of 35mm film of only “people,” and Timothy reloads the film again into the same camera, to imprint only “places” and locations to the same roll. These images are all the end result of our ongoing series and are unedited negatives straight from the camera.”
