Saul Leiter

Saul Leiter, a New York City photographer who is a major contributor to the New York School of photography movement. Starting out shooting black and white he began to work with color photography in the late 40’s and had some major shows featuring his personal work in the 50’s. He then got heavily into fashion photography and stopped showing his personal work even though he was still shooting on a regular basis. “It was only in the 1990s that he began to look back at that remarkable color work and start to make prints. His sense of color and densely compressed urban life represents a truly unique vision of those times.”
