PHOTOGALLERY: BRIAN BARNHART / 2019

Here is a roundup of some favorite photos from 2019.  They include shots from a visit home to Catty Woods; a trip to Orcas Island; a road trip to Tahoe, Utah, and Boise shooting new projects and helping with the build at Woodward Park City for Alpine Bike Parks; scenes from here in the PNW; and probably my favorite thing to shoot – Swampfest, which I had published in Victory Journal, Issue 17: “Outliers” (2019).  I also just released a zine called Groundbreaker commemorating the two Portland trail spots that were plowed. The original print run of 100 copies sold very quickly.  I’m currently feeling out doing a second print run for those who missed out.  Also hoping to build a new trail spot this year, and hence have some trails to shoot!

PHOTOGALLERY: HIKARU FUNYU / NIGHT MOVES

Thanks to Van Homan moving to Japan, I am now aware of photographer Hikaru Funyu. After poking around his Instagram, I felt he’d be a good candidate for a gallery here. Hikaru was down and submitted a bunch of rad pics for me to look through. As I was going through the photos he sent, I noticed he shot a lot at night time, and that seemed like a great theme to me.

DEAN DICKINSON – PSA: POOL SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT

Dean Dickinson loves pools! Its true. With that said, he’s readying a new pool based short film that he’s been shooting on Super 8 film, which will be online early 2020. I’ll let the man himself break it down:

PSA: Pool Service Announcement is a pool riding narritive short all shot on Super 8mm Film. For the past year and a half I’ve been riding, traveling, and documenting pool riding/skating in its natural form. Not just the riding but the entire pool riding experience is showcased in this film. Portland, Seattle, LA, Phoenix, and Sydney are a few of the featured cities.

Riders: Andrew Lazaruk, Benn Pigot, Trent Rowsell, Jessy/Allan Twins, Mike “Rooftop” Escamilla, Rick Thorne, myself, & more!

Skaters: Jamie Jacobson, Nick Peterson, Frank Richardson, Kevin Kowalski, Peacock, & more!

BARCODE STATE OF MIND

This Barcode State of Mind zine randomly showed up at my work recently and it was truly a great surprise. Adam Spitalny put together a beautiful zine that covers a roadtrip him and his boys took. I wanted to give it some shine, so click below for some sneak peek images that Adam provided. Drop him an email if you’re interested in picking up a copy at adam@iamfrank.co, or drop a DM through Instagram.

Some quick words:

Around 2000 miles with a total of around 15 skateparks in places ranging from high altitude mountains to legit desert to shitty towns in the middle of nowhere to nice towns in the middle of nowhere. 5 out of 6 homies rode barcodes by total coincidence so we started joking with each other by saying, “barcode boys!” Hence the name. Enjoy the imagery from the trip and give a shout if you want some detailed maps of BLM camp spots covered in bees, a BLM camp spot literally in a marsh somewhere near Butt(e)Montana, or a really sick BLM camp spots where a team of middle school runners go to practice and their dirty-old-man coaches tell you how hot the girls (“and boys, if you are into that kind of thing,”) are after the teens go jogging off into the mountains of Montana. Weird folk out there, but damn is the riding good, scenery great, and roads pretty sweet to drive aboard a big ass van filled with your friends.
