Back in 2002, thanks to Rooftop, I had the pleasure of spending 5 weeks on the road with the Sprite Liquid Mix tour, where we traversed the US on a tour bus with the Zoo York skate team and watched Jay Z shows from backstage nightly while gambling our per diem cash in games of Cee Lo. To earn all of this, we were required to ride a few ramps for about 40 minutes a day.
During the tour I met and became good friends with Nino Scalia, who was the Zoo York skate team manager at the time. Soon after the tour he moved from the east coast to Los Angeles to do some work for Pharrell Williams and to pursue his dream of becoming a movie writer.
Well now it’s 2009 and guess what? Nino and his friend Rob Dyrdek have created a movie which is finally seeing the light of day. Nino put years of sweat into this and I’m happy to see it coming together. It’s about skateboarding, it got rave reviews at the Newport Film Festival, and it’s coming to theaters very soon. Stay tuned for an interview with Nino, but for now…
