Original: Nike Pool

Back in May, Nuno and I headed out to England to shoot photos and film the Nike Pool jam. I had no idea what to expect when I was heading there, but the Nike Pool jam ended up being one of the best contest I have ever been to… not only from a riding standpoint, but also the vibe was amazing, everyone was having so much fun, the ramps were amazing, the free food, free beer… I could go on…

Aside from the whole weekend being so much fun, the building and the ramps were amazing for filming. Great colors, interesting architecture, the two floors with windows looking down at the ramps. I was a kid in a candy store. This edit is more of a reflection of the weekend. A montage of a bunch of random stuff. I missed some bangers, filmed lots of random stuff and had a really fun time putting it all together… Enjoy!

Nike BMX Night in Los Angeles

If you ride bikes and have never dabbled in the tranquil LA Tunnels at night, than Nike has you covered. They are throwing a jam this weekend, which should be interesting.

From Nike:
The event is Sat July 9th 7-10pm. Confirmed athletes are Dennis Enarson, Garrett Reynolds, Nigel Sylvester and Chad Kerley. This will be a full production with smoke, lights, video projections DJ/music, free food, Chosen trailer, Snapsportz, Chosen Moment iD tee customization, swag and gear to win, etc. All the ramps are being built by Aaron Bostrom.

If you are in LA or nearby, you should try to hit this up.

Devon Hutchins dives in…

If you enjoyed my gallery from the POOL, than you will surely be into all the pics that Devon Hutchins just dropped into his Flickr. Good stuff.

As Devon puts it:
This is my take on the Nike contest that went down at the Dagenham swimming pool. No flashes just a high ISO and about 6 beers deep. Enjoy.

Check out the set HERE.

The POOL – The Full Story

Here’s the official Nike POOL edit. Hadrien Picard did a good job of putting this together from beginning to end. Like I said before, this event was unreal riding wise and concept wise. You will see a bunch of the wild shit that went down in here.

The Pool was more than a BMX comp, it was one of the most extra-ordinary gatherings of the BMX community this century.

From the draining of a soon to be demolished local authority swimming pool in Dagenham, East London, into a world class park in less than two weeks was a feat in itself, but to see the diversity and level or riding on display at the launch event was truly remarkable.

40 international riders with a brand new team format saw non-comp riders, veterans, street destroyers and park animals all throw down into something far better than we could have dreamt of.

Winning Team:
Dennis Enarson, Chad Kerley, Josh Harrington and Jeremiah Smith

Best Line: (Awarded to Ruben’s team)
Ruben Alcantara, Kevin Kalkoff, Sergio Layos, and Tom Dugan

Best Rider: (Rider’s choice)
Dennis Enarson

Best Trick:
Brian Foster – Gap to curved wallride out of the deep end

The Pool is free to ride until the 12th June 2011

Nike Chosen Trailer

This looks promising.

Photogallery: Nike-The POOL

As you may or may not know, the Nike POOL contest went down this weekend in England. The event was held at the soon-to-be demolished Dagenham Swimming Pool which Nike converted into an amazing wooden playground. It looked like quite the feat and I don’t recall hearing the riders say one bad thing about the course.

A lot of the world’s best riders were in the house and the level of riding was unreal. The riding was inspired, dialed, big, smooth and it was a treat watching people find all the lines. I don’t know what it was about this particular contest, but I feel it was THE best contest I’ve ever personally attended. There was a moment towards the end when I recall asking someone “what is going on at this contest?”. I’m sure a lot of people were thinking the same thing, it was just plain good bike riding on another level.

Furthermore, This POOL setup will be open to the public for 30 days after the contest for anyone to enjoy.

Assuming you’ve seen most of the riding and videos on Ride BMX and such, here is my take on the POOL comp as I lurked around for 3 day with my camera. Click below to check out some pics along with some random facts about the contest. Harrison will be handling video duties, so check back in a week or so for that.

Thanks to Nike for bringing Defgrip out and for putting on a successful event.

More info on the Nike POOL event has just come in. Harrison and I will be on hand for this, should be sweet! Look forward to seeing everyone out there.

Nike – The Pool

Nike presents The Pool – a project that transforms an ex-local authority swimming pool in Dagenham, East London, into a world class BMX park. We’ve drained over 1.5m litres of water and set to work on creating something very special, but riders of all abilities need to be quick as this fantastic building is set for demolition. The Pool will be free to ride, take lessons or just watch the action with local school sessions starting 16th May. The 4-week programme of core events, community interaction and beginner workshops run through to Sunday 12th June with bikes, supervision, pads and helmets available for those who need them.

To launch The Pool we have invited 10 world class riders to choose 3 of their crew and show us what they’ve got for a share of a €25,000 purse. With an incredible array of lines on offer, this invite only event will present a new competition format and demonstrate the unfeasibly high standards that BMX park and street riding have reached in 2011. The first shots of the completed park will be revealed in the final teaser edit on Wednesday 11th May, where we find out once and for all what happens at The Pool.

Team captains: Garrett Reynolds, Dennis Enarson, Harry Main, Jason Phelan, Alex Kennedy, Ruben Alcantara, Brian Kachinsky, Drew Bezanson, Van Homan and Sebastian Keep

Free open public sessions at The Pool:
21st and 22nd May
28th May – 5th June
11th and 12th June

Tracking Garrett Reynolds

Nike just dropped this cool little piece on Garrett Reynolds. Dude’s awesome. Watch it.

From Nike:
Between countless contests and endless filming missions, Garrett Reynolds is one of the busiest riders in BMX. We caught up with Garrett for a few days in San Diego to get this exclusive interview and some absolutely unreal riding footage. You’re going to like this…

This just showed up in my inbox. Very vague and interesting. Hmmmmm……

Nike – Destroy to Create

Here’s an interesting piece from Nike Sportswear, featuring some talented artists playing with the idea of ruining something to make something. The above jacket is made of a solid block of wood. See if you can spot the Lavar hat cameo. Video below.

Nike Bridge Runners By Tim Barber

Nike’s Bridge Runners, a photo series by Tim Barber documenting people running on the bridges of New York, made it’s rounds online over the summer. For some reason I didn’t really check it out, but after I got hit up to go to an opening for the photos tonight, I did some googling… And even though these photos have probably been on every website ever, I still felt like they deserved a post. The videos that coincide with the project, created by Exposure are amazing as well. Nice slow-paced shorts documenting the photographer documenting the runners…
