Final 14. The Hunt BMX Video Project enters final stretch.
It’s been a long summer of clocking footy and uploading clips and the final fourteen have arrived. Broken arms, crashed hard drives, corrupt files, and missed deadlines are all part of the program when working with such a wide variety of riders and filmers from all over the world. I’ve seen all the full-length parts and it’s better than I thought possible. The riders and filmers who committed to putting in work pulled out all the stops and went hard. Some riders go the extra mile for a DVD project and it’s going to be obvious when you watch this video. A big thanks to all the riders who had faith in this project and I’m glad I was able to resurrect a place where amazing video parts can live on a DVD.
The first annual Hunt BMX Video project is ready to fill the judges eyes with some of the most progressive ramp and street riding ever put to tape. We’ve been uploading teasers for the past couple weeks and we’ve reached the final list of riders that will show the judges their full-length parts.
Judges will begin voting at the end of the week so be sure to tweet to the following guys your favorite riders.

Once the judges have spoken, the top ten video parts will be released on DVD with the top video part winning $5,000, second place gets flown to Barcelona courtesy Odyssey BMX and the rest of the money trickles down to the top-five. Odyssey will be picking one rider from the top-ten to be on the Odyssey flow team for a year and another lucky rider from the top ten will be getting fresh Vans shoes for all of next year. Defgrip will be premiering the Monster Energy Best Bonus nomination mixtape as well as the Pro-Tec Best Trick nomination mixtape where an extra $1000 will be awarded for each top clip, picked by Head Judge Will Stroud.
The DVD bonus material will include: Scotty Cranmer Monster Edit, Vans Team Mixtape, Odyssey BMX Team Mix.
Videos will be pressed and shipping by October 15! The most exciting part of this project is still a head of us and we’re already working on 2012……

Will Stroud is currently out here in Cali for a few days to gather footage of Dakota and Nathan. I ended up meeting up with the dudes to chill and possibly snap some pics.
We all met up around 11 or so, had some breakfast and decided on spots. Nathan and Dak were pretty beat from a late session at Etnies the night before, so this session was going to be on the mellow-er side. A bunch of good stuff was still produced though. Justin Kosman was also on hand shooting real photos, which I wasn’t trying to poach. So this little gallery is more or less just a casual account of the day.

Motivation + Talent + Hustle = Justin Kosman
That little equation pretty much sums up Kosman to me, and I’m sure you will feel the same after reading this interview. He is a behind-the-scenes move maker whose work is very much out front. Unless you avoid all forms of BMX media, there’s a 1000% chance that you’ve seen his work everywhere.

Dirt Ron has a great little video about his art on BMX Wonderland, shot by Justin Kosman. Along with being a bad ass shredder on a bike, Ron can get down with a pen and paper as well. In the video you will lean that Ron was actually born in Hawaii, how he got into art, and the names of some of the characters he draws, like Dudu Brown and Dudu Wham Shit!

For some reason, when the temperature drops from 102 to 97, it seems like someone grabbed you by the collar and dragged you up from hell into heaven. Dave Dillewaard and I were in Phoenix, AZ last weekend filming for a GT project at Chandler Skatepark, and the session ended up being 5+ hours long.
I had just picked up one of the Canon 5D MK2 DSLR+HD cameras and hadn’t used it much on the trip, so I put on my tilt shift 45mm lens and tried to get a really tweaked angle on one of the mellow quarters. Filming with the 5dmk2 isn’t very easy unless you have a second LCD that you can tilt up as a monitor (I don’t), otherwise you have to lay on the ground to compose the low angle. It was over a hundred degrees all week, so I wasn’t about to lay on the ground, but the concrete at Chandler cooled off surprisingly fast once the sun dipped down.
Here is a short clip of a footjam whip with some Magic Bullet saturation added for impact. Enjoy.
