FLASHBACK: Welcome Back Edit

Let’s take it back to 2011 and the “Welcome Back Edit” that Christian contributed to the grip.

After being broken and collecting dust for the last 3 years, I finally got my VX fixed and decided to make a ‘Welcome Back Edit’ with my friends. Featuring Chad Kerley, Dennis Enarson, Connor Lodes, Ronnie Napolitan, Billy Macpherson, Mike Jonas, Devon Smillie and Big Kenny Enarson. Enjoy my friends!

Jay-Z on OWN

Came across this profile about Jay-Z on Hypebeast yesterday. With the new year, brings Oprah’s new network OWN. One of the series they will be producing for the network is titled ‘Oprah Presents: Master Class‘ and it will be profiling some of the most influential people in the world. Kicking the series off is a really great piece on Jaz-Z. Most of the topics they covered Jay has talked about already, but he has some great quotes in here and it’s definitely a motivating pice… great way to kick off the new year and help you get your ass back in to gear.

NY – Z

By now a lot of you have seen this, but for those of you who haven’t you should definitely check it out. ¬†Absolut Vodka teamed up with director/photographer Danny Clinch to produce a 15min documentary about Jay Z, his life growing up in NY, and the days leading up to his show at Madison Square Garden last September 11th.

Morning Breath Inc.

The guys at Morning Breath from Brooklyn, NY have updated with a new website. The site is more of a blog format with a SERIOUS archive of all their work showcasing everything from their current poster work to their old Jay-Z album covers! Make sure to spend some time on their site and keep reading to check out some of their work. p.s. Andrew and I are out in Brooklyn, so if anyone reading this from NY, hit us up!

The Making of Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 Cover

Jay Z Blueprint 3 cover art

There is a great video documenting the process of creating the cover art for Jay-Z’s Blueprint 3 album. I think the art it self is pretty cool and I love all the work that Dan Tobin Smith, the artist that created the Blueprint 3 cover does, but I really feel like this cover doesn’t make sense for Jay-Z. For example watch the Rhapsody commercial. The concept of the commercial is to take you through all of Jay’s album covers in one steady shot, where Jay changes clothes, scenes, and poses. The commercial is to promote the new album, but it ends with a bunch of white instruments rather than an iconic image of Jay-Z, like every album he has put out in the past. I feel like the commercial would have been so much stronger if the last shot was Jay on the cover of Blueprint 3… None the less, the new art is pretty impressive and the time laps video documenting the process is fun to watch. Check out the time laps as well as the Rhapsody commercial after the jump. (via inqmnd)

YES!! This song made my day. Total breath of fresh air. Death of Auto-Tune by Jay-Z.

It’s about time someone stood up against this auto-tune bullshit.
