Q&A: Will Smyth Discusses DIG’s New Direction

Dig site 2

DIG BMX as you have come to know it is changing. How? Well, after 21 years the actual print magazine has ceased to exist and all energy is being redirected online. This new direction may or may not come as a surprise these days, but it is surely a welcome change.

I have always been a huge fan of DIG and I’ve got my fingers crossed that they can continue doing what they do in digital form. With that said, there is a new site and new staff in place to tackle such changes. As always, I threw Will Smyth (DIG’s editor) some questions about it all. Continue reading and stay tuned to DIG BMX.

INTERVIEW: MIKE “ROOFTOP” ESCAMILLA

rooftop, defgrip, mike escamilla, interview, bmx

It”s been a minute since we’ve had a nice big feature interview on the site, and I’m happy to change all that with this new piece on Mike Escamilla. Mike ( AKA Rooftop ) has had a powerful and interesting BMX presence for some time with plenty of video parts and photos to prove it. Never one to bite his tongue while simultaneously probably putting his foot in his mouth, it”s always interesting to hear what Mike has to say. His riding and history says the rest.

Hide your children, hide your wife. I’ve been contemplating this move for a year, but now it’s time to pull the trigger.

little devil, ridebmx photo, derek adams

Little Devil is a great brand to get nostalgic about, especially if you grew up in that era. The team, the clothing, the videos, THAT LOGO! Good stuff.

Mulligan/Ride BMX had a good chat with the devil Derek Adams regarding all things related, including #bringinglittledevilback. Go HERE.

You Listen To This Man Everyday

rick rubin, music, producer, interview

The Daily Beast has a great interview with producer Rick Rubin. I have so much respect for this dude. To say that this guys career is INSANE, would be an understatement. He founded Def Jam in his dorm room and worked with everyone from Slayer, RUN-DMC, Johnny Cash, the Beastie Boys, Jay-Z, The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Kanye West and on and on and on.

Check the WIKI to get a grasp on it all then hit up The Daily Beast interview.

Q&A: Chris Rye / Props Road Fools

chris rye, defgrip, props, road fools, bmx, interview

Props' legacy within BMX is undeniable. Throughout its run, it gave us a glimpse into all aspects of riding, showcased plenty of riders, put you on to new music, revealed personalities and captured many classic moments. Anytime a Props would drop, we would gather at a friends house and watch the shit out of it. I'm sure it was the same for most of you (unless you had no friends). The Road Fools series of course, took it all to the next level.

Props is about to release a Road Fools Collectors Edition Box Set, which basically means that all the classic-ness can be found in one place. The following Q&A with Props founder Chris Rye  sheds some insight on the Road Fools history as well as the new box set, which you can now.

New York Times: Behind Kanye's Mask

There are countless page view hungry websites putting up “Kanye’s [insert number here] Most Stupid/Hilarious/Awesome Quotes” articles stemming from the article and it even sparked a discussion when I crossed paths with Harrison Boyce late yesterday. The article ranges from topics such as the process of designing and making music and really digs deep into the people/influences that made the polarizing figure who he is today–get to the NYT website and check it out.
