Ambipegstreetest – Jake Coulson

The other day a 17-year-old kid told me that Jake is his favorite rider. I had to break it down in my head. Jake is a perfect mixture of modern day street riding and classic street riding. He has the talent but unlike a lot of these kids, he has the eyes as well. Hopefully more young kids are influenced by Jake and his tasteful skills.

Also, if you have not checked out his ‘Hard Times’ section then click here.

Some Nike dudes went to Spain…

Here’s proof.

Flashback: Mike Mastroni Defgrip Edit

During Mike Mastroni’s worthwhile TCU podcast, they referenced the video above quite a bit. We posted this video that Mike (mostly) self filmed back in 2009, so I figured a flashback was in order.

Enjoy!

In Residence : César Cervantes

Nowness has this great series on architect’s and artist’s homes and spaces called “In Residence” that always seems to draw me in when I scope out the site. Some of the pieces grab my attention more than others and this one features an eerie little piece on a utopian home designed by Mexican architect Luis Barragán. I get some Kubrick(ian) vibes from this one and I love the touches of shadows of figures hinted at in some of the shots….oh and it’s a pretty rad space too.

Ambipegstreetest – Zack Gerber and Eric Umbarger

Zack has put out his own DVD recently, had a section in Hard Times and has a split section in Ambipegstreetest all within the last year. He is a productive rider. Eric is low-key but kills it when he wants to.

Homage to Tiseo

Screen Shot 2015-09-02 at 11.02.03 AM

Joe Tiseo passed right around the time that I got into riding. He seemed like he was capable to do whatever he wanted to on a bike. I will never forget the day that Tiseo died because it lands on my birthday. Your legacy lives on.

Photogallery: Dakota Roche by Nick Tellez

dakota roche, nick tellez photo

Photographer Nick Tellez is someone I learned about through Dakota Roche’s Instagram a little while back. Seems as though he was always shooting with Dak, but wasn’t your usual everyday BMX photographer. Looking at his site and Instagram, I was right. Nick holds it down with rad surf pics, lifestyle, scenic goodness in addition to BMX and skate.

I reached out to Nick about doing something for Defgrip and he was down. I had originally suggested doing a general photogallery with a mix of photos since he shoots a wide range of stuff, but Nick suggested doing something with a Dakota theme. I was totally down for this and thought it was a great idea. We still plan to do another mix gallery later this year too, so keep your eyes peeled.

With that said, click below to check out a rad Dakota Roche gallery by Nick Tellez.

Ambipegstreetest – Homies

Here are some people that I encountered while filming for the DVD.

SF-it

5 day trip, 9 minute video. I’d say these dudes killed it.

Trent McDaniel – Dig x Hoffman Bikes

I guess I’m pretty biased, but Trent fucking slays it!!!! This new edit is precedent to that. Trent makes so much stuff look too damn easy…it’s not fair.

I thought I knew what I could expect from this video from seeing some of the container/ramp pics, but that last clip completely shocked me and had me feeling the fear, haha. Shouts to Drew Bezanson for that one.
