This is for anyone in Portland or anyone who’s going to be in town for the Dew Tour. One of my favorite artists, Cody Hudson is having a show at the FIFTY 24PDX Gallery from August 7th (tomorrow) till September 27th. If you are around, you should definitely check the show out and if not, make sure you brows his site. He has some amazing work.

I don’t know if I’ve ever mentioned how much I dig DJ Premier here. When all else fails…I can always go back to Premier. I can listen to almost everything he’s been behind, and his sound epitomizes “golden era” NY hip hop for me, while sounding just as good today (to me anyway).
Below are a few of my favorite DJ Premier produced songs in no particular order. Pic by Estevan Oriol.

My good friend Jill Kintner, who is heading to the Olympics as the only US girl in BMX racing, just posted a nice look at the Freestylin’ book that was put together in conjunction with the Nike Lightning Bolts art show. You can check some photos of the book out on her blog a few posts down and you can see a few photos of the Nike BMX SB shoes as well.
Good luck at the Olympics Jill! Check out her post here.

Check out this video about A-Trak. It goes over a bit of history about how he got started and ends with a look into his creative process for putting music together.

Lotek have a new video page up the site. Hit that up to check out some awesomeness you may have missed. I highly suggest Lotek Vancouver.
Speaking of videos, and completely unrelated… E-40 and Akon were filming a video on the beach down the block from my place last night. Really random!

I hit up the Bike Curious event in Santa Ana tonight, which was an art showing based around cycling. Jeff Z, Kurt Rasmusson and Bob Haro all had some rad stuff on display, as did a bunch of other people I’ve never heard of. Bob Haro’s illustrations are awesome up close.
I didn’t know what to expect as I was getting lost trying to find the place, but it turned out really awesome. The show was held at a toy store, which also had 2 floors above it as the space. A bunch of riders showed up, and we all ended up chilling.

I Met The Walrus is an incredible short film that’s been making its rounds on the web. It’s even been nominated for an Acadimy Award. “In 1969, a 14-year-old Beatle fanatic named Jerry Levitan, armed with a reel-to-reel tape deck, snuck into John Lennon’s hotel room in Toronto and convinced John to do an interview about peace. 38 years later, Jerry has produced a film about it. Using the original interview recording as the soundtrack, director Josh Raskin has woven a visual narrative which tenderly romances Lennon’s every word in a cascading flood of multipronged animation. Raskin marries the terrifyingly genius pen work of James Braithwaite with masterful digital illustration by Alex Kurina, resulting in a spell-binding vessel for Lennon’s boundless wit, and timeless message.”
