In the span of a few short years, print magazine The Albion gave us a lot of material to chew on. We caught up with editor Daniel Benson to look back on it all.

Just a reminder that The Albion crew continue to release back issues online. Issue 12 has just gone up and features (among other things) a great article on Morgan Wade which I previously enjoyed very much.

The Albion Coming To North America

Rejoice! The Albion is about to be readily available in the USA & Canada. Read the press release below.

The Albion is just about to launch in North America. It will be available in the USA and Canada. This will be the first time anyone there will be able to get a copy of The Albion for free. We are shipping this week from Liverpool to New York City where it will be sent to participating distros and mailorder stores who will be sending out the mag to their BMX shops. We hope to continue to drive kids into BMX shops and selected outlets where scenes are happening rather than convenience stores to pick up The Albion for free. The success and support from the BMX industry worldwide has been a major factor in the decision to take the mag to America. To the brands who will be distro’ing The Albion for us we are of course ever thankful.

This will co-incide with the launch of our NEW WEBSITE where editorial ideas manifest themselves digitally as well as on paper, a first for us and a step into the void where we hope we can reach out to our brothers and sisters globally. All three Editors will be updating the site regularly so keep your eyes peeled for exclusive content and sign up for our newsletter. For those riders who have subbed already, we will be addressing the issue shortly and will post on our FB as soon as the finer details have been worked through. Thanks for your support. see you all soon.

Support your bike shop and buy stuff that lasts, fix stuff that breaks and drink water, it’s free.

The Albion Launch Party

The official launch party for The Albion was last week and we have a bunch of photos from the launch by Tom Kirby from Breaks of 10, as well as a few film snaps from George Marshall. Check em out! Big thanks to Tom and George for the photos. If you are looking to pick up the mag, it’s free in the UK and if you are outside of the UK you can get it by subscribing via their site!

First Look: The Albion #1

Defgrip is happy to present you the cover to Albion #1.

My opinion? The cover looks great and it leaves me excited to see a physical copy. Simple as that.

In case you missed it, we previously interviewed Daniel Benson regarding The Albion, which will have a launch party on the 31st of March (today) in East London. The interview and release party info can be found HERE.

In addition, the Albion guys filmed a quick behind the scenes view of the printing process of the first mag. The video also contains little previews as people flip through copies. Click below to check that out.

Thanks to the Albion crew for hooking us up with all this.

Q&A: Daniel Benson / The Albion

In January of this year, news of a new UK based magazine called The Albion dropped.

There hasn’t been too much info regarding the nitty-gritty, so I recently threw some questions at Daniel Benson about it all. Click below to check that out.

The Albion

There’s a new project brewing called The Albion, which is a new magazine out of the UK. This release wasn’t meant to be public just yet, but the cat is out of the bag, so here we are.

Having spoken to the guys about this, and considering the talented people involved, it sounds pretty exciting. Check back soon for more.

Farewell Albion

If you recall this announcement and then the long stretch of innactivity that followed, you could probably guess that the Albion was no more. That is officially the case now.

From The Albion crew:
Somethings are not meant to last forever. Thanks for the support whilst we were here, we are sunk, at the bottom, wrecked, broke, in debt, bust. I’d like to say we gave it our all but we did not, not by a long shot, we gave what we were prepared to give and sometimes thats just not enough. There are no survivors. Pour over our remnants in years to come and revisit your memories of what we represented to you, maybe one day you’ll turn again the pages of time and remember us, 17 issues, thats enough, time to die. The Albion is dead. Ride on kids… its a new day tomorrow, live it… “Till the wheels come off”…

Damn shame… but like the statement says, somethings are not meant to last forever. The Albion gave us unique (sometimes controversial) content to sink our teeth into along with a nicely designed layout and standout/collectible covers (which Defgrip had the honor of sharing with the world first online). A big issue with the magazine was actually getting your hands on one, luckily back issues are online for eyeballing. I’ve hoarded my issues and plan to hang on to them for a long time.

Above is the video that accompanied one of my favorite articles from the Albion, which was the “Live Free or Die” feature on Clint Reynolds and crew from issue 9. Watch it then search out the issue.

Thanks for everything.
