Q&A: Walter Pieringer vs. Jay Roe

walter pieringer, jay roe, defgrip Q&A, bmx

When Brian Yeagle contributed his recent interview with Walter Pieringer, he inadvertently kicked off a project I've been meaning to start for some time.

The idea is basically to do an ongoing interview of sorts, where the previous interviewee goes on to interview someone of their choosing. So Brian Yeagle interviewed Walter Pieringer, and now Walter has chosen to interview Jay Roe.

Click below to check that out.

Enjoy!

Q&A: Brian Yeagle vs. Walter Pieringer

walter pieringer, brian yeagle pic, defgrip, 1

Brian Yeagle has graciously contributed this travel based Q&A he did with Walter Pieringer, along with some photos that he’s taken throughout their travels together. There’s no doubt that Walter likes to “dive in” when it comes to traveling. Continue reading to check it all out!

Shout out to Brian Yeagle for the submission.

It’s difficult to think of persons you have traveled with more than once and had not at some point become agitated toward that person for something trivial or significant during that time together. It is with greater rarity to be able to name someone who has been an itinerant comrade a few times over and say truthfully that they have always made the experience richer, more pleasant, thrilling and basically were also the decisive element in making the whole thing possible from the start.

Every time I have traveled with Walter Pieringer he not only engages every bit of action that arises but also takes many steps to initiate interesting experiences for himself and his companions. His oversized woodshop-style glasses might lead you to believe he instructs teenaged Texans day in and day out making birdhouses and mailboxes; until the moment comes when you observe his prodigious employment of the Iphone and camera making quick work of any logistics and capturing images of unmistakable authorship. His command over these tools as well as others can easily leave one nonplussed and very appreciative when falling under the rendered benefits. From traipsing around Tokyo to a failed motorcycle ascent of a volcano in Ecuador, my admiration has grown for his draw to the unfamiliar and the necessary skills he’s cultivated making it possible to bring any concept into actuality.

I made an inquiry into his venturesome lifestyle and wanted to share some portraits of Walter I have made during our time traveling together.

-Brian Yeagle

Tandem Lake Jumping

keith terra photo, aaron ross, walter pieringer, aqua olympics

Sooooo…. yesterday during the Fun Fun Fun Fest Aqua Olympics lake jumping festivities here in Austin, Aaron Ross and Walter Pieringer decided it would be a good idea to take this Fairdale tandem bike down the ramp. Now, this tandem is not an official tandem, it's actually 2 separate Fairdale bikes that Clint Reynolds welded together as a fun little project. It's definitely rideable and not entirely sketchy though. However, taking it lake jumping down a fast ramp with a real takeoff DID seem sketchy, haha..

It all went very well though. The first run went smooth, so Aaron and Walter then decided to try and flip it, which is what you're looking at here. Aaron bailed and Walter hung on. They emerged unscathed and the tandem held up!

Good times!

Walter Pieringer provided us with this travelogue from his travels to Japan with Brian Yeagle, KC Badger, Joseph Frans, Broc Raiford, Chad Kerley, Alex Magallan, and Greg Illingworth. Stuff like this can always find a home on Defgrip.

I recently had the opportunity to travel to Japan with Brian Yeagle, KC Badger, Joseph Frans, Broc Raiford, Chad Kerley, Alex Magallan, and Greg Illingworth. They went over there to do demos, but afterwards Brian, KC, Joseph, and I rented a car and took off on our own with the goal of seeing as much of Japan as we possibly could. It was much more of a recreational trip than a riding trip, and we had one hell of a good time. I put together this little video with bits of footage I shot while shooting for a Ride UK article and some footage Joseph shot with his GoPro. Nothing beats exploring interesting and unfamiliar places with your friends.

Imprint Project – London

imprint, london, george marshall, edwin de la rosa, ricky adam, walter pieringer, jeff zielinski

The traveling photo gallery known as the Imprint project (Through Quintin & Breaks Mag) comes to London this week, and features work from the following:

Walter Peringer
Walter Peringer is a photographer based in Austin, TX. He has completed commercial and editorial assignments on six continents and in more than two dozen countries across the globe. His BMX photographs can be seen
in Ride Uk.

George Marshall
George Marshall is a London based freelance photographer and associate editor of The Albion BMX magazine. In 2006 he graduated with a masters in photography from the University of Nottingham and as an undergraduate exchange student he studied photography at the University of California, Santa Barbara, USA. George is definitely one of those photographers with The Eye: he gets in there, figures out the shot, takes care of it, and it always comes out a treat.

Ricky Adam
Ricky Adam likes to shoot photos. His current employment at Dig BMX requires him to shoot photos of BMX, but he takes his photography much further beyond the realm of technically accurate BMX riding to capture the reality of life.

Jeff Zielinski
Finding the best new spot to ride for the most epic tricks to be photographed, lies Jeff Z. Part human navigational system and part photographic visionary, he is the go to guy if you want to shoot some polished BMX photos. You can call him obsessive, crazy, over-prepared, or just call him the Associate Editor/Photo Editor at Ride BMX.

Edwin Delarosa
Edwin DeLarosa is a professional BMX rider turned photographer who has uninhibited eye for the streets. His images capture the life around him and the energy of NYC
