Risto Kalmre is a graphic designer from Tallinn, Estonia and one of the main guys behind the Simpel Session contest. I was fortunate enough to get to meet Risto this past January in Estonia where I got to attend the contest and see the country first hand. I had a blast in Estonia, the contest was amazing and I was really psyched to get to meet Risto. One of the things I was really impressed with was the branding and identity for the contest. When I showed up, Risto picked me up at the airport and I had no idea he was a designer… It’s funny when you meet people and you get completely surprised by who they are and what they do… Risto was definitely one of those guys.

Makr is a leather and fabric brand started by designer Jason Gregory that makes items for carrying your life in. The whole thing started four years ago as an experimental art project and turned into a entire collection. Jason worked with Ronnie B from Shadow on a number plate for the Lightning Bolts art show where they did some great laser etching. The laser etching is used on all the Makr products and it’s a great complement to the hand sewn aspect of each piece. This collection is the first full collection from Makr and consists of wallets, cardholders, and pouches.

Nike just launched a small site for their new, highly blogged about Sportwear line, that’s dropping soon. I can admit that I was way into Nike’s not so long ago and still have a closet full of em, but these days, I’m more for the simple shoes like Vans, Convers, Lotek and Pointers. I guess my whole style has evolved over the past year or so and I find my self wearing way more simple stuff… I don’t think I even have one t-shirt with a graphic on it at the moment. I’m way more into cut, fabrics, and all the small details and the Nike Sportswear line is exactly that.  Built off of classic pieces, they focus on fabrics, cuts, and simple ways to improve the products. The site that was launched is pretty minimal and only has small previews of some of the stuff. They do have a cool little video of the whole release that went along with the Lightning Bolts art shot in China and you can see some cameos of Spinner and Nigel. There is also a photogallery for the Windrunner featuring Nigel and it’s dope to see Nigel in there with his bike. Thanks to Shino for the heads up.

I stumbled across this amazing photo set on Notcot and knew I had to post it. Similar to the abandoned hotel post, photographer Gigi Cifali traveled around the UK, shooting empty pools that had been abandoned or shut down. There’s no direct link to the gallery, but you can check out some of my favorite pools after the jump. It’s interesting to see the lack of transitions in all these pools. I don’t know my pool history, but I’d be interested to learn when they started building transitions into pools.

I should just let David Lang take over posting on the site because he sends over so many good links. The latest is a portfolio site from the photographer, Natasja Fourie. Fourie has some amazing photos, but what blew me away more was the site. I don’t know if I just haven’t been paying that much attention to Flash sites, or if this thing is really that good, but I just can’t stop thinking about it. The full screen option that displays the site like you are watching a movie is amazing, the background screen type images are incredible, and all the type and design details are spot on. This is definitely one of my favorite sites I’ve seen in a while and I don’t think I’m the only one judging by all the awards the site has won.

There’s an “On the Net” interview with Adam22 from The Come Up on BMX Union that is accompanied by a sweet photo of Adam that Nuno shot when we were all in Mexico!

Adam touches on most of the basics, talks about why he started the site and lays down some great quotes, like this: “I am pretty proud that I’ve made it this far without doing anything besides copying and pasting embed codes.”
