Photogallery / Video – Frenchy’s Meeting V4

Our boys out of France are back with another Frenchy’s Meeting. Frenchy’s is a distro out of France (duh) and they make it a habit to get their team out there and record the action. Sit back and watch Nico Badet, Joris Coulomb, Matthias Dandois, Maxime Charveron, Alex Valentino, Adrien Lecomte, Anthony Perrin, John Garcia and Ben Gea do their thing.

In addition, Lilian Conry was nice enough to contribute some photos from the trip:

It’s been 4 years since we have a crew meeting every summer. The idea was to spend great time together because we are really good buddies in life. Every trip, every year, the atmosphere is awesome, It’s a hell of a week, it became a meeting that we all expect.

This is also an opportunity to shoot pics for our new catalog and edit a video. This year we decided to make the trip in the north east of France. Where I was born and raised! Matthias Dandois, Max Charveron, Alex Valentino, Nicolas Badet, Anthony Perrin, Adrien Lecomte, Ben Gea, John Garcia and Joris Coulomb have well exploited the area. A mix of street, park, trail, cow, meadow and haystack!

I shot these pictures with my old dad’s film camera… A Nikkormat.

We’ve written down 100 random questions and assorted topics, all of which are unbeknownst to our victims. We will be asking people to pick 20 random numbers from 1-100 and then supplying them with those questions/topics to answer. Who knows what might come up!?!?!

Up next, is mysterious/kick ass videographer and rider, Richard Forne.

We’re psyched to premiere this feel good casual road trip video that Hoang Tran put together. It features riding from Hoang, Tom Perry and their boy Dylan along with all the fun stuff in between. This song will most likely be stuck in my head all day too.

From Hoang:

This little trip I took with my friends Tom and Dylan was nothing more than an excuse to get out of town for a couple of days. We barely did any planning for this trip beside figuring out some key destinations. We decided to take a roadtrip up to San Francisco and do some camping along the way. There are two main interstates you can take to get to San Fransisco from San Diego. The fastest route, that’s up the 5 which takes about 7 hours with no stops, or you can take the 1 (Coast Hwy) which takes 10+ hours but filled with incredible views. For us, it was going to be about making good time, but for us now this is measured with the emphasis on “Good” rather than “time” and when you make the shift in emphasis the whole approach changes. So we went up the 1. The rest of the trip was based around this motto and many good times were had.

This video showcases some of the experiences on the way up and our short stay in San Francisco. Thanks to Tom for doing all the animation and helping with the filming; Erin Barker for her photography and letting us crash at her freshman college dormitory that housed a group named the sexy six…,Dylan for partying with the sexy six to levels of panty incineration.

Behind The Cover: Dig 98 / Trails Issue

DIG 98 COVER by Rob Dolecki:

-This is Clint Reynolds’ second DIG cover; first was for Issue 82: an over-under air with Ryan Corrigan at the La Perla bowl in San Juan, Puerto Rico, which I also shot.

-This was shot a week after Texas Toast. Due to other commitments, I only had a week to stay in Austin and opted to skip out on Toast so I could spend the whole time with Clint, Matty, and Nutter, getting their split interview together. Because the Texas summer heat had just ended and all three dudes were working on the Toast jumps in the weeks prior, and thanks to a monsoon flooding everything out less than a week before I got on a plane to Austin, the first jumps at East Side were just starting to get resurfaced when I arrived. The first two days were spent working on Main Line, then the next day riding them in. A storm came through that night and soaked the trails pretty well. That resulted in another full day of working on the trails, and the last two days produced some heated sessions of the local crew re-riding them in, as well as a few other bad-asses like Chase Hawk, Baz Keep and Lima. The hip Clint is riding in the photo saw extended trains the last day. It conveniently poured like crazy the following day as I got on the plane back home, which incapacitated the trails in the following weeks. Luck of the draw.

-This happens to be the second DIG cover at East Side trails, both being trails-themed issues. The first one (Issue 68) was of longtime nomadic Austin resident Tony Cardona, who recently got married and had his first child.

-This photo was shot with my favorite megapixel masher, a Canon 1DX. The brightest light source available on the market was used, and it didn’t cost anything for it.

-The process for this DIG cover photo choice was pretty off-the-cuff, as they usually are. Will (Smyth, Editor-In-Chief) loved the photo, made a mock cover with it, and  everyone who saw it loved how the cover looked.

DIG 98 is out now. Follow Rob Dolecki on Instagram.

Scrapbook 2013 – Harrison Boyce

harrison_boyce_photography_main

It’s crazy that 2013 is already behind us and as the year comes to an end I always have fun looking back at my photos over the past twelve months. I was able to do some pretty incredible stuff over the past year and see some pretty incredible places and I can’t wait to see where this year takes me. To kick 2014 off I put together a collection of photos from last year shot on various cameras. I really felt like I spent a lot of time thinking about my photography, trying to figure out what type of photographer I am and hopefully that translated into my work. Out of everything I did, I still enjoy roaming around the streets on my own with my point and shoot snapping photos of all the random stuff that catches my eye.

Q&A – Vincent Perraud / Portfolio 2013

vincent perraud, defgrip

I always enjoy Vince Perraud’s photos, which is why I’m psyched to have received his newsprint 2013 portfolio that he put together (those are my feet up there). He’s covered Simple Session for us, provided an Autophoto plus more… He’s a regular around here.

Seeing as I was stoked to receive this piece of newsprinted awesomeness, I decided to ask him some questions about it. Click below for that interview.
