PHOTOGALLERY: VINCE PERRAUD

Photographer Vince Perraud is no stranger to Defgrip. He has been featured on the site numerous times and has provided a bunch of great photo galleries over the years. Go HERE, HERE, HERE and HERE for a few things.

As of late, Vince’s photography is evolving and his subject matter and images are varied. Murphy Moschetta cited Vince as a favorite photographer in his Q&A above, saying – “Vince Perraud ( bikes or not, he finds the best light!)”. This triggered an idea in my head, so I approached Vince about contributing a gallery of non-BMX images using cool light as a general theme/vibe. And here we are.

Q&A: Chris Rye / GO FAST PULL UP

The Jimmy Levan documentary, entitled GO FAST PULL UP, is available now and you should definitely do your best to see it and/or own it. Even more so if you came up being stoked on Jimmy Levan’s riding and persona.

After watching the doc, I wanted to hit Chris Rye (who directed/edited GFPU) with some questions about the project. This is a solid read for sure with PLENTY of info and stories. Click below.

Q&A: Christian Rigal / BMX-MTB

Photo – Anthony Smith

I’ll start off by saying that I love Christian Rigal’s Still United part. I suggest giving that a watch for sure. Having known Christian as a serious rail slayer has made his recent transition into MTB all the more interesting to me. How did this happen? Either way, I’m stoked that he’s stoked.

Click below for a Q&A with Christian about his transition into MTB. Don’t worry, he’s still stoked on BMX.

SWAMPFEST POLAROIDS BY TRAVIS MORTZ

Photographer Travis Mortz is not scared to take numerous cameras to events, especially not frankenstein ones that he has made himself (more on that below)!

We’ve always championed different/original takes on things here at Defgrip, so when Travis mentioned to me that he had polaroids from Swampfest from a camera he made himself that produced interesting images that he was willing to contribute to Defgrip for this this batch of updates, I was all about it.

Click below for some “Frankenstax” pics, along with some words from Travis himself.

Jeremy Pavia @ Random

I had the chance to meet and spend a day riding with Robbie Nelson a few months back while on a mission to cruise and shoot with fellow Bone Deth riders Dean Dickinson and Dirt Ron. We rode a few parks, had a session at an amazing pool, and then Robbie ended the day with this roof drop. For those of you that aren’t familiar with him, Robbie is a part of the flow team and obviously earned his stripes by handling set-ups like this without hesitation. It’s always good to see that raw East Coast style that the Bone Deth squad is so well known for be represented out here in California. It’s also not often that riders want to end their day by jumping off rooftops but hey, Robbie does his own thing and isn’t that what this “freestyle” shit is all about in the first place?

Q&A: Sauce

sauce, chris eiland photo, bmx, defgrip

If you’re familiar with the Common Crew or any of new generation of BMX kids coming up out of Southern California right now, than Sauce is somebody you’re probably familiar with. If not, I think he can simply be summed up as a young motivated kid from HB who loves filming his friends.

I’m always down to give dudes like Sauce some shine if they land on my radar, so keep reading for a quick Q&A.

Shouts to Eddie Cuellar for the pic.

Photogallery: Dakota Roche by Nick Tellez

dakota roche, nick tellez photo

Photographer Nick Tellez is someone I learned about through Dakota Roche’s Instagram a little while back. Seems as though he was always shooting with Dak, but wasn’t your usual everyday BMX photographer. Looking at his site and Instagram, I was right. Nick holds it down with rad surf pics, lifestyle, scenic goodness in addition to BMX and skate.

I reached out to Nick about doing something for Defgrip and he was down. I had originally suggested doing a general photogallery with a mix of photos since he shoots a wide range of stuff, but Nick suggested doing something with a Dakota theme. I was totally down for this and thought it was a great idea. We still plan to do another mix gallery later this year too, so keep your eyes peeled.

With that said, click below to check out a rad Dakota Roche gallery by Nick Tellez.

Justin Kosman @ Random

brian martin, justin kosman photo

Shot October 2006: I had a bunch of expired film from my old boss in Chicago so I was shooting as much of it as I could. I believe this was the Shakey’s pool in LA and Brian Martin was always down to ride pools with Dean an Kurt. At that time I was in Huntington and riding with those guys as much as we could, weekends and nights. Brian was a private investigator and later moved to Hawaii.

If I had to guess this was Ilford 400 film on a Canon 1N body triggered with Pocket Wizard cables. Since this was 2006 I had probably eaten a tuna sandwich from the nearest 7-11 within minutes of this photo being taken.
