Alex Valentino: 2012

I had randomly come across Alex Valentino’s New York gallery on The Diggest and was really into it. I always get stoked when I unexpectedly find out that certain people are into shooting, so I did what I do best and asked him to contribute to the ‘grip and he came through.

Top Posts of 2012

As the year comes to an end tonight, we spent some time digging through the archives to bring you the top posts of 2012. Like the past few years, our original content came out on top with a few random posts that somehow got some great google results mixed in.
Huge thanks to our readers and advertisers for your support in 2012 and hope everyone has a safe and happy New Year’s Eve! On to 2013!!!
Scrapbook 2012: Nuno Oliveira

2012 was interesting. I moved from Long Beach to Austin, and for whatever reason ended up shooting way less “real” photos than I did in years past. I still carried a camera around a bunch and accumulated some goodies, but ended up with a lot less this year. For real, I’m blaming Instagram (in a good way). No matter the medium, we still have images. This collection of photos is a mix of camera and iPhone pics that I took throughout 2012. Enjoy!

Justin Kosman: 2012

Edwin De La Rosa: 2012

It should be clear by now that we’re fans of Edwin De La Rosa around here. With that said, our boy hooked up a handful of photos that he shot throughout 2012 for a gallery. These photos play out like a cruise through New York with other various moments sprinkled in. Thanks Ed!

Q&A: Stew Johnson & BF-it

Chrissy Piper Photo
Stew Johnson has taken on the task of heading up a documentary on Brian Foster, one of the most respected and all around legends of BMX. That’s not blog intro fluff, BF is a cot damn respected BMX legend and awesome individual. The documentary is aptly named, BF-it.
Stew has been secretly (as best as he could) working on this doc for the better part of this year, and the final outcome is fantastic. I tip my hat to Stew for putting BF-it together and to BF for being BF. I have since seen BF-it after sending these questions to Stew and I can’t wait for fans of BMX to see it.

Evidence of said 20″ mastery can be SEEN RIGHT HERE.
In addition, we have a gallery of this trip that Povah compiled of Instagram pics from all of the crew. Click below to check that out.

Justin Kosman @ Random

I shot this grind to barspin with Biz last season while were were out doing some Verde stuff in Jason Enns’ neighborhood. Super chill day and nothing out of the ordinary except stomping through a horse corral to get here and a homeless guy sleeping under a tree a few feet away. Of course there were Mike Escamilla jokes flying left and right when were setting up the picnic table next to the monkey bars, but it was definitely a tribute to Mike’s school yard set-ups more than anything. This landing was a little bouncy which made it weird for Biz to land over and over, but first time he spun the bars we got the photo dipped out.
John Paul Rogers & Collateral BMX

Any astute Twitter lurker who might follow Empire could figure out that Tom and John Paul Rogers were up to something. That something is Collateral BMX, a new website that will be dropping soon. While the topic is still in the vague stages, I decided to hit up the dudes and see what was up.

Also, follow Collateral BMX on Twitter and on Instagram under @collateralbmx.

On Friday August 24th we held TEAM SHRALP’s YOU WON’T book release party at the Jack London Bar in Portland. Then Saturday August 25th we held the TEAM SHRALP Chunk-a-billy Bowl Bash at the Hood River Skatepark. Later that night we celebrated Austin McCabe’s 25th birthday. And then Sunday August 26th the McCabe brothers and I had a little session at the Donald Bowl.

Will Smyth Discusses DIG Magazines Future Plans.

courtesy of DIG
DIG recently sent advertisers a private email informing them of the magazines future re-launch plans. These plans include a shift in editorial direction, magazine size and making it available free through bike shops (while still being available on newsstands). These changes will take place with the next issue which will be available in September, and each issue will be treated as a “special edition” and follow a central theme.
I’m a super DIG fan and look forward to whatever they’re cooking up.
To avoid any misinformation on all this, I hit up Will Smyth (DIG’s founder) with some questions about it all. Click below to check it out.
