It seems there has been a string of unfortunate events lately, but I guess thats how life goes sometimes.. I can narrow it down to five or so key people who have influenced me to be where I am at today in my professional life, and one of those people is Hillman Curtis. You were such an early influence to me, I will cherish the times I got to work with you. Respect. R.I.P
Our friend Ed David recently shot this awesome piece on the Mast Brothers for The Scout. Ed actually said it Best – so to quote, “A short documentary about two brothers, chocolate-makers, that are bringing craft back to the U.S. in an age of automation and the dulling of the American creative vision. We filmed them before they took off to set sail and to explore where their chocolate comes from.” I personally find this piece fascinating for many reasons, but how awesome would that be to sail across the world in search of goods! Respect!
I met David Rubin this year while living in New York. Actually he happened to live a few doors down from me, just until recently when he decided to move due to intolerable Puerto Rican’s bumping their absurd car stereo’s, and PG-13 motorcycle gangs that jam Creed at all hours of the night! I’m super psyched on his photos though, and wanted to share it with Ya’ll as David would say. From Austin, TX originally and now an NYC transplant! check out his work. BFF presents Joyride, an art exhibit curated by BFF founder Brendt Barbur. I know they have done these in the years past but I’ve never personally attended one yet. I’m looking forward to starting though on the big 10th anniversary show! With works from artists whom I really admire, to close friends, this should be fun! BFF Alums and friends the Neistat Brothers have a new show on HBO. To celebrate this there will be a big party and screening on Wednesday June 2nd presented in partnership with IFP, Bicycle Film Festival, Uniondocs and Rooftop Films.
Ride, Rise, Roar, is a David Byrne concert documentary I’ve been personally anticipating now for a while! Directed by Hillman Curtis and shot by Ben Wolf. They follow Byrne, Brian Eno, Dancers, and choreographers, as they document songs, live stage performances, behind the scenes rehearsals, and interviews, giving a glimpse of what its like to go on tour around the world, and the creative process that goes behind it! It will be premiering at this years SXSW film festival in Austin TX. check out the trailer here, I cant wait to see it!
