It’s funny how things work out sometimes. A few months back, we started to work on a video/interview with Wolfman. We never really had a launch date, we were just psyched on him and wanted to do something. A few months went by and Wolf was clocking footage. I randomly got to meet him for the first time in Cali and was super psyched. He was a dope rider, but also an awesome dude. I really wanted to ask him to ride for MacNeil, but with his current sponsor setup it wasn’t the right time. A few weeks ago I got back in touch with him and we were able to put some stuff together. At the same time we were talking, Marco was just finishing up the edit for Wolf’s video and it was looking like it was going to be perfect timing. His interview and video were going to drop right as we announced he was riding for MacNeil. So, to sum up this rambling, this MacNeil stuff and his interview/video had nothing to do with each other, just through some random events were were able to drop the Defgrip feature and announce that Wolfman is riding for MacNeil!

Peter Sutherland is a photographer that I’ve heard a lot about, but up until tonight, haven’t spent much time checking out his work. I started to hear his name through his documentary, Pedal. A film that was released in 2001, documenting the New Your bike messenger scene. Then I heard his name a lot when his book Buck Shots was released last year. His site just received an update and through a link on QBN I ended up there tonight. After browsing though all his photos and films, I learned that he worked on the 2002 film, Stoked, a documentary about the 80’s skate scene and Mark “Gator” Rogowski and he has a pretty extensive body of work. I really love the simplicity of his photos and I definitely feel there is a strong story behind each shot. I also enjoyed all the little short films on the “extras” page.
Check out Peter Sutherland’s work here.

Brian Osbourne from Beloe was kind enough to cart me around Minnesota this past weekend (thanks for that), and while there (apart from freezing my coconuts off) , I got to see some of the newest Beloe product as well, which looks really good.
The Beloe blog is up now too, which you can check out right HERE.

There is a rad Q&A with Van Homan on the Vital site… You should check it out for the footage of Van, Randy Brown and Brian Foster riding the Little Devil ramp and the old clips of Van from the Little Devil videos. Brian Foster is in there asking some questions and you know with that guy, you are going to get a few good laughs.
Check it out after the jump. Continue Reading »

Designer John Phenom has launched a new site and video project that features interviews with creative players in the fashion/design/streetwear world. The first three episodes have just been launched with features on Josh Madden, Raymond Roker the founder of URB magazine and all around awesome guy and founder of Evil Monio, Ricky Kim. I always enjoy getting a glimpse into peoples world, weather it’s a shot of their office or just some simple dialogue, you always get such a better idea of what they are about and for me, it helps me connect more to their work.
Check out the site for Hey Fam here and you can watch all three videos after the jump. Continue Reading »

You may recall our interview with Tim Swart of UNIV recently… well here’s another project he’s involved with. Coup De Grace is coming out of San Diego with some clean tees and fleece, quality denim and a nice name. Pronounced Koo De Grah, it’s a French term for “blow of mercy”–read all about it here. See their collection here.
I had been checking out this brand for some time before I realized it was Tim’s deal… And I was lucky enough to get a nice care package from Tim and crew. Click below to see all the photos.

I just came across this site on FormFiftyFive and was blown away by the amazing interface and incredible photos.
“A thousand-year-old tradition, the Inupiat whale hunt provides the community’s annual food supply, currently limited by international law to 22 whales a year. Each spring as the ocean thaws, ice breaks away from the mainland as a single massive chunk, which then floats out to sea, creating a canal of open water called the “lead”. It is through this lead that Bowhead whales migrate north to the Arctic Circle, where they spend summers, surfacing for air every 30-45 minutes en route. We saw hundreds of whales on the horizon, but most were too far away to attack. Finally on the fourth day two whales (each 36 feet long and weighing around 40 tons) were harpooned, hauled up onto the ice using a block and tackle system that resembles a giant tug of war between man and sea, and summarily butchered, the meat and blubber then distributed to the Barrow community.”
