Hong Kong BMX

langincrediblestorethumb.jpg

Photographer, David Lang is out in Asia right now visiting his family for the holidays. David grew up in Singapore and moved to Vancouver a few years back to go to school. On David’s way to Singapore, he stopped by Hong Kong to visit a few friends and stumbled across a clothing store in Tsim Sha Tsui that had a bunch of old school BMX bikes.

Check out a little write-up and some photos from David after the jump. Continue Reading »

Edward Burtynsky

manufactured_landscapes.jpg
For some reason I think we may have posted on this guy before… or maybe not… Anyway I saw a movie last night called Manufactured Landscapes, witch had a film crew follow photographer Edward Burtynsky through China as he captured timeless photographs of the Chinese civilization, and the manufacturing workforce. I thought the film was done very well, using very slow dramatic shots, and scored suitably, leaving you totally immersed. The film has very subtle commentary from the photographer and very little dialog as well. definitly depicting that action speaks louder than words. I can definitely say that after I watched this, it made me realize how good we have it over here and to appreciate the job I have much more.

Day 19

day19.jpg

I’ve been browsing a lot of photo sites and flickr pages lately and I feel that there is a serious amount of great stuff out there, sometimes there are so many great photos, it’s really hard to pull stuff out of a crowd. And especially in the world we are in now, where everyone has a camera and being a photographer (or even a designer or musician) is so accessible. But there are times when I come across peoples photos and portfolios that just grab me the second I see them. I posted a “best of flickr” entry a few weeks ago that contained a few of my favorite photographers, I had come across recently, who all caught my eye somehow… and I guess this post is just an extension of that.

Through flickr I came across the photos of Jeremy and Claire Weiss who shoot under the name Day 19. I don’t know much about them due to the fact that I discovered their work only minutes ago, but I just really felt the need to post on them. What drew me to their work is how real their photos feel. They make their subjects feel accessible and almost bring you right into their life more like they are documenting moments in time, rather than staging elaborate photoshoots. This post might be a bit of a ramble, but I wanted to share their photos and express my feelings that between all the mediocre content on the internet it’s so great to randomly come across such amazing work.

BACK AT IT…

cart.jpg

I’ve been home on Long Island for a quick Holiday stint for the last couple of days, and returned yesterday. I was going to write about how the Holidays are a lot of work with all the running around (especially if you live away from “home”), but I’m sure you know how that goes. I’m glad that’s over. Unfortunately, I left the day of Superfly’s premiere.

I do have 2 words for you though. Guitar Hero!!!!

Now I’m no video game nerd, and the last game system I had was the OG Nintendo. However, Guitar Hero is fu#@*ng awesome. I’ve heard so much hub-bub about the game, but didn’t give it a second thought until me, my girl and a bunch of our friends stayed up until 2:30 am playing that shit, even though I had to get up at 7 a.m. to drive to Pennsylvania. So good!!!!

I took a “holiday” from the internets as well, and have come home too:

Primo’s new web video. Tons of good dudes on that one, and anything with Dakota is gold.
Jay-Z resigning from Def Jam, then opens Hotel.
Terry Adams being on the Odyssey team
The new Federal website
Pegleg bonus part 1. Pick up that Pegleg dvd if you haven’t already.
The siiiiiick Give D web vid. Stoked on that.
Oh, and sign THIS to keep Hidden Valley trails going. Thanks for the email dude.

I’m sure there’s more, but that’s all I got right now.
