NIKE ID

Sooooooo, i was lucky enough to be invited to a Nike ID event at my local sneaker spot, which i was psyched about. Nike came through and setup 3 computer stations, catered, decorated the shop and 40 people were able to customize a pair of sneakers (a colorway that is). The setup was similar to the online version, but with more/better options. A person can go crazy, and the Nike reps could go crazier with people being so indecisive, especially with so many possible options. But whatever, all went well. The best part is that the shoes were free. Thats always a good price.

LETS LEARN ABOUT… JARED WASHINGTON

Home is… New Brunswick NJ
The last place I rode… Piscataway NJ but I cruised around New brunswick today for a few minutes
The last person/people I rode with…Evan Nutt, Chris Reyes, Gallop, Alfredo, QC, JWG, and mecro
When not riding im…work, school, chillen with friends, going out at night to the bars, making fun of gallop, stuff like that.
Last night I ate… Taco Bell and Pizza city
My current favorite song… Vanessa Carlton -a thousand miles
(from Tunney) My bike is consistently a pile of junk because.. I never really take the time to fix it, even if I get all new parts they just usually don’t work from the start and its aggravating so I just leave it alone.
(from Tunney) My current pile of driving infractions includes… well the current pile of tickets I have sitting in my room include, careless driving, no front license plate, no seat belt, exhaust noise, and failure to show proper i.d, I just wanna say I fuckin hate cops more than anything in the world.
My dream car would be… Porsche Carrera GT, but realistically I’ve been feeling STI’s lately
After answering these questions, I will be… Meeting up with some people and going to a party.

MySpace

MySpace is nuts. I don’t think there is a day that goes by where MySpace doesn’t come into conversation. I don’t have a MySpace account and neither do most of my friends, but the conversations that come up are always based around marketing, target audience, what kids are into, etc. I wish I had more time to talk about this, but I’m at work… You know how that is. It’s crazy how MySpace is such a integral part of so many kids lives these days and there is soooo much info on the youth of the world for anyone to access. I wonder how many teachers read their student’s MySpace accounts? So I came across this article about MySpace on Paul Mittleman’s blog on Honeyee. I definitely suggest taking the few minutes to read the article. You can check it here. I’d be interested to see what everyone has to say about this, so leave comments!

“ADICOLOR” AD CAMPAIGN

It makes me happy knowing that people are thinking and being clever. Posted above is a before and after of a new ad campaign by Adidas. Adidas has brought back the “adicolor” series which is essentially a few sneaker models that come in all white with markers and such included so you can customize your pair however you want. Soooo, for the ad campaign, they applied this same premise. First, Adidas puts up a blank/minimal white billboard which essentially invites graffitti artists, passers-by or anyone with a marker to write/draw/vandalize on it. A few days later, they apply a new sheet ( you can see the wrinkly new version on the right) with a sneaker over the existing “decorated” billboard leaving the markings to show through certain areas of the sneaker, hence, making it look custom.

Very clever, well thought out, interactive and all that. You dont have to be a sneaker fan to appreciate this level of creativity.

RSS

So a while back I got the rss stuff sorted out on the site. I never really dug into it to see what rss and site feeds are all about, I just knew it worked. While having a conversation with Andrew the other night about site feeds, I decided I should look around and figure out what all the buzz was about. I did a google search and came across a site that recommended NetNewsWire. NetNewsWire (NNW) is a program similar to your email. You just install the program, click on any rss link and you now get updated every time one of your sites updates. Its amazing. I have no idea why I slept on this for so long. If this is everyday stuff for some of you, sorry, but I think there are enough people out there that haven’t got into this, that should definitely take full advantage of site feeds. I am so addicted now. It’s been a great way for me to keep up with current events. I seem to have no problem checking all the design and clothing sites, but I slacked on the news. Now I have CNN news briefs on my computer all day, so I can pretend to make a week attempt at keeping up. You can keep up on podcasts as well. NNW is pretty incredible and extremely in-depth. I have only touched the surface. I definitely recommend everyone to get on this. You can check out their site NetNewsWire. You can also use firefox/motzilla or safari.

So there is a BMX tie-in to all this. Jason Morris from rainydayproject.com has compiled a rss resource page for BMX. Right now he has gathered up all the BMX sites that currently have site feeds and is working on a tutorial on feeds in firefox/safari . Definitely check this out and since Jason is going to be constantly updating this site with new BMX related feeds you might as well subscribe to his feed.

LETS LEARN ABOUT…MANMADE DARREN

I Live … in Ronkonkoma, NY. I am originally from a town in Queens called Douglaston, but I moved out east a little on Long Island.
Last night I ate… two 99 cent hotdogs in penn station. I am training for the Nathan’s hotdog eating contest.
My all-time favorite place to ride is… a hard question to answer. I like ghetto ramps and fun street stuff. I am not really into scaring myself, so nibble street spots can entertain me all day. I cant pick one favorite spot because I like to ride a little of everything. In 1998 my favorite spot was 7-11 trails, in 2001 it was my local school park called 248 and at the moment my favorite place to ride is my friend Steves backyard ramp.
My favorite riders are… Brian Foster, Van Homan, Bob Scerbo, Corey Martinez and the whole Manmade team. I also enjoy watching all the unknown street shredders in the Shook videos.
When not riding, im… working on Manmade, broin’ down with the crew, hanging out with my lady or watching baseball.
The current song that I cant get out of my head is… my brain is on shuffle.
The last person I called was… Shredder Dan.
I hope to visit… every baseball stadium in the USA. I really wanna check out the UK. I am going to try and make it out to the next backyard jam. Japan seems fun also.
The last gadget I bought was… a Sony cybershot digital camera.
Right now im wearing… my favorite blue cult jeans, manmade “pistol” belt, manmade “tree” pocket tshirt and nautica boxers.
My favorite drink is… water during the day, bacardi at night.
The Manmade team is… a bunch of dudes that mean a lot to Manmade and will be down forever regardless of what paths they choose down the road. Manmade isn’t just about bike riding, I want it to be more of a family feel then just a sponsor.
The last shitty situation I was in, was… last night sitting on the Long Island railroad drunk at 3am. Some idiot was try to mack it to a chick by making fun of my ripped jeans. I was solo and had noone to talk to during the hour and half train ride home. I ended up having to change my seat.
If I won a million dollars… I would live exactly how I am now, and not worry about what I am going to do in the future. A million isn’t what it used to be. I’d invest it, then hopefully in about 5 years I would buy a house with enough land to build a concrete skatepark and a motocross track in the yard. It would be nice to build a guest house to have visitors come by whenever they want. I play lotto from time to time, maybe it will come true. It is a shame to see people that have money and blow it all.
After answering these questions, I will be… finishing an ad and going to work on some sketchy street spot.
