Empty Pools

pools_2.jpg

I stumbled across this amazing photo set on Notcot and knew I had to post it. Similar to the abandoned hotel post, photographer Gigi Cifali traveled around the UK, shooting empty pools that had been abandoned or shut down. There’s no direct link to the gallery, but you can check out some of my favorite pools after the jump. It’s interesting to see the lack of transitions in all these pools. I don’t know my pool history, but I’d be interested to learn when they started building transitions into pools.

Check out the whole series on Gigi Cifali’s site and some of my favorites after the jump. Continue Reading »

Natasja Fourie

natasjafourie.jpg

I should just let David Lang take over posting on the site because he sends over so many good links. The latest is a portfolio site from the photographer, Natasja Fourie. Fourie has some amazing photos, but what blew me away more was the site. I don’t know if I just haven’t been paying that much attention to Flash sites, or if this thing is really that good, but I just can’t stop thinking about it. The full screen option that displays the site like you are watching a movie is amazing, the background screen type images are incredible, and all the type and design details are spot on. This is definitely one of my favorite sites I’ve seen in a while and I don’t think I’m the only one judging by all the awards the site has won.

Walter and some bikers

walter_bikers.jpg

Walter Pieringer hit me up yesterday to tell me about some photos he shot the other day.

“There was this huge motorcycle rally in town this weekend, so I went downtown to 6th street (where all the bars are in Austin) with a big softbox and a bunch of other photo gear. I set up in the middle of the blocked-off street and spent a couple of hours asking the wildest looking people I could find if I could shoot their portraits. I made a little web gallery of the series”

The photos are really dope and Walter said 90% of the guys were down to have their photo taken which is pretty rad. You’d think they wouldn’t be into it at all. When it comes to asking random people if I can take their photo, I suck and I would definitely be scared as hell to ask these guys!

James Mollison

I just came across this post on the T Magazine blog and had to post it. It’s images from a photo show by photographer James Mollison. Mollison traveled to concerts, taking photos of fans searching for an answer to the question of “When should one stop appearing in public dressed like a rock god?” I’ve definitely been inspired by musicians styles, but I don’t think I’ve ever gone this far… and actually, I’m not sure if the fans in these photos really realize how much they are dressing like the artist until they see the photos (excluding the Jimmy Buffet guys. haha!). I could definitely see it being a semi-subconscious thing. None the less, the photos are really interesting and there is even an FBM t-shirt in there (second to the left above)!

Check out more images here. The Dolly Parton and Jimmy Buffet photos are my favorite!

David Lang Blog

david_lang_blog.jpg

Thanks to Andy Chung, David Lang finally has a blog going on his site. He’s been talking about it for a while, but he just hit me with an email last night letting me know the blog was live! His first post is a bunch of random show photos he’s shot over the past two years. Aside from shooting BMX for Red Bull, David seems to be out on missions almost weekly, shooting DJ’s, bands, parties, art shows, or whatever else Red Bull throws at him and his first set of photos is a collection of just that. There are some incredible shots in there and he has a great eye when it comes to shooting shows and parties… Definitely a fresh breath from the typical party shot. David also has a few photos in the new Ride US, so make sure to keep an eye out for them.

Check out David’s blog here and make sure to bookmark it, because I know he’ll continue to post great stuff on a regular basis.

RAD Flickr Set

Jordan from Vimby sent over a link to this RAD Flickr gallery. There is some great stuff in there and this link is a perfect demonstration of how great Flickr sets can be… They are definitely on the top of my “how to waste as much time as possible” list.

Check the set out here.
