Ever since I got Tomorrow We Work, I’ve been listening to Vampire Weekend a bunch. One of their songs was used in Dan Cox’s part, which is what prompted me to check them out. Their sound is upbeat, and they blend different musical styles pretty well. I also enjoyed reading through the lyrics, which seem pretty clever.
Check out Vampire Weekend if that sounds like its up your alley… however, if you’re into norwegian black metal, maybe you shouldn’t.
I’m having trouble starting this post… The whole topic could go three ways and I don’t really know what to focus on… Should it be a technical post talking about the quality of videos on the web and how small box “youtube” type videos are going to quickly be a thing of the past, where they get brought up in conversation like our parents talked about black and white TV? Or should it be about the amazing imagery of the trailer and how well the piece was put together… Or should I focus on the band and their cult like following… In any case, I think I’m just going to let the trailer speak for it self and let you decide.
I came across this post by David Lang on the Gnarwhale site about a trailer for a new Sigur Rós DVD. The DVD is titled Heima and it’s a documentary, following the band around their homeland of Iceland, playing free shows for anyone who shows up, in some of the most beautiful locations I have ever seen. There are a few different options for watching this trailer, but you should definitely take the extra few minutes and watch the 1080p version… It’s amazing.
The guys over at Gnarwhale have been compiling some Muxtape links from all their friends. They are on round II and they asked me to put something together. I hadn’t messed with Muxtape yet, but I had a blast throwing some tracks together.

At a time when the music industry is in a state of disarray it takes some serious balls to start a record label. Get Familiar is the second release on the fledgling label One Handed Music and proves that there’s still a market for tangible forms of music if it’s good enough. It’s been a long time since I’ve been so into a hip-hop release. I’m not going to better House Shoes quote on hearing it for the first time though:
I was listening to Pandora online, when all of a sudden Craig Mack’s “Flava in ya ear” remix came on. For some odd reason I started to crack up and proceeded to look for the video on YouTube, since everything is there.
I remember this shit when it came out, and it was kinda popular at the time, especially with the crew involved. Craig Mack is pretty much one hit wonder status from what I remember, but at least he got on a remix with Biggie. I’m not sure how popular Craig was outside of New York, but click the video and enjoy this old school posse cut. Biggie is worth watching alone.
Knowing I’m a Ghostface superfan, Vinnie Sammon was nice enough to gift me one of 500 Zoo York / Ghostface tees with the accompanying skate deck. This collab between Ghost and Zoo York was born of Ghostface’s longtime love affair with the Iron Man / Toney Stark story throughout his career, with Ghost using both names as two of his aliases (which are listed on the shirt).
Ghost even starred in a scene from Iron Man, which unfortunately got cut from the movie before it hit theatres, but not before a personal phone call from Favreau who apologized did his best to make up for it.

I was browsing Rubin Recommends the other day and came across a post about Muxtape. Psyched on the cool cassette graphic, I clicked to check it out.
Essentially, Muxtape is a site that lets you create/upload your own “mixtape”, or collection of songs (from any genre) for others to click on and listen too. This could be a useful way to come across new music and/or promote yourself as well if you are in a band or make music.
So far, I’ve come across some pretty random playlists, but also found some good ones too. Check it out.
Earlier this week I had gotten an email from Sandy Carson saying something like, “Hey, would you like me to send you one of my band’s CD for review”? My response was, “I didn’t know you were in a band”, and “send it”. I email with Sandy every once in a while, have him as a Flickr contact, and I still had no idea, ha!
Anyhow, that bands name is Iglomat, and features Sandy and friends all contributing and having fun on a music project. The songs are mostly instrumental, some have breakbeat style drumming, and some with voiceover samples such as “Tornadic Activity”, which I like a lot. There’s a nice mix of genre’s going on. I totally didn’t know what to expect, but I sincerely have been enjoying the CD since it came. Absolutely.
