Can Cycling Save The World?

cycling_save_the_world.jpg

It’s interesting to think about the position we are all in with the current state of the economy, gas prices, etc. and the fact that most of us ride bikes every day. There have been many articles written about cycling and how it could “save the world” and I just came across another one on the Dwell blog about this issue. I thought it could be cool to get a conversation going here about riding bikes for transportation and was interested to see how many people are riding their bikes more to get around these days? I grew up with the idea you would drive to a spot or the park and then ride your bike, but I definitely feel like that’s changing and people are using BMX more for transportation. Let me know your thoughts!

Loft Life

So I’m browsing one of my favorite sites, Apartment Therapy, and come across this unique new magazine called Loft Life. I go to their website and check out this cool article about insane loft spaces that have been featured in movies. It highlights the lofts from American Psycho (seen above), Bottle Rocket, A Clockwork Orange, and of course Maude Lebowski’s residence in the best movie ever.

So pour yourself a 12-year Macallan (or just keep it gutter) and go check that article out. Then check out this similar one on Apartment Therapy LA. Don’t forget to subscribe to Loft Life for dirt cheap, and then go Netflick all those joints because I know you want to revisit Christian Bale cannibalizing frozen heads.

Evil Monito Magazine

In keeping with the LA theme, Rickey Kim has launched the 22nd issue of his Evil Monito magazine online, under the theme “Neighborhood Folk” which spotlights Echo Park and surrounding hoods. I haven’t read the whole thing yet, but the first thing that caught my eye was this eye-opening article about the homeless population in Downtown Los Angeles.

Read it here.

Carhartt Manchester

If you’re anywhere near Manchester tomorrow evening Carhartt have a new store opening on Oldham St. in the Northern Quarter. Apart from the necessary free booze the new store features an exhibition by Guy Mckinley and there’s cash up for grabs for the best trick over a flat bar if I can find two traffic cones and some road tape on my arrival.  The full flyer’s after the break, hopefully see you there…

Breathing Earth

Breathing Earth is a site dedicated to displaying carbon emission throughout the world based on the most up to date data. It also displays how many people are born and die from the time you start watching the site. It’s pretty interesting if you have a moment to spare.
