Rad! Vans Syndicates

There was a recent preview for the upcoming Vans Syndicate line in L.A. Paul Mittleman, the creative director for Stussy, had some photos up on his blog at Honeyee and from the looks of things, one of the themes in the fourth series of the Syndicate line will be Rad! the movie. There is some history behind this shoe. Back, way before all these collaborations, and co-branded shoes, Vans had a “Rad” shoe. I don’t really know to much about the shoe other that it was DOPE and that Shad randomly came up on a brand new pair through a friends mom or something random like that. There isn’t really any good photos of the shoes, but if I come across anything, I’ll post them up.

Rad is helping bmx make a major comeback right now… first was the Huf Edition of New Era Hats and some Shirts, now there’s track bikes that resemble old 80’s bmx bikes, vans shoes, and numerous other shirts… HOORAY FOR BMX!

You know i think the shoes are dope and im into people outside of BMX looking at us now like we do have something to offer, but i am really not into the stuff like huf is doing with the old hitch and ODi logos. It would be cool if that exposure and hype that the stuff Rycon talked about was helping BMX out but its not.Its just our history being pillaged by outside people to get them that quick buck.Haha and dont get me started on the fix gears!thanx.

I know what you are saying. BMX is dope and we cant let dudes who have nothing to do with us take it and make money. I’m not saying they shouldn’t be doing what they are doing because I have no idea about their history. Who knows, Huf could of rode BMX back in the day. It’s just that everyone needs to realize how rad BMX is and work hard to profit internally, not sit back and complain, just to let someone else come and snatch up or history.

    I agree with schralp.

Who cares about Huf’s history and whether he had a bmx bike as a kid. He hasn’t done anything with or for BMX in the last 10 years. Can he please just pillage someone else’s heritage?

Which actually brings me to the upcoming DC X SE racing colab.

I saw all the products and they actually look pretty cool, and yes DC does have a BMX team, but the entire project is kinda stupid.

DC is jumping on the old school BMX tip with a PK ripper and some Vans lookalikes just to try to give themselves some history and credibility.

It’s all just a little too manufactured. Celebrating the 30th anniversary of SE racing with a a set of authentic BMX products (SE) and some knockoff retro looking DC’s.

“celebrating 30 years of radness” … coming soon
