ELEVATION

I just got back from Mexico where this years Red Bull Elevation comp was held. I was down there on judging duty along with John Povah, Fuzzy, Ryan Barrett and Beringer/Nasty (Nasty had to fill in for Beringer on Saturday). It was a fun exciting new experience, and I was psyched to have been given the opportunity.

Everything went pretty smooth during the comp, and I’m sure everyone had a good Mexico experience. The riding was top notch and Dave King, Elf, Magilla and Nick Halsey put together some rad jumps again. Check out Ride BMX for results and some pics. Thanks to Red Bull and Jay Miron and his camp.

Below are some random memorable tidbits from the weekend:

The crowd in Mexico was awesome, they got super into it. There was even a sign that said “Nyquist has big balls”.

Speaking of, some dogs actually made their way onto the jumps and ran around right before one of Nyquist’s run, and he had to stop on the first lip.

Speaking of, about 17 minutes into the 20 minute best jump contest, Nyquist decides to join in. He took one run, then pedaled super fast up the hill and then does the smoothest cannonball double barspin that you’ve ever seen for the win, in the nick of time.

Luke Parslow drank the water.

At one point, Harrison and I were waiting to cross the street when we saw 4 or 5 black pickups fly by in traffic with sirens on, and about 10-15 authority figures literally piled and hanging out of the back of them. It was kind of scary, but I guess that is pretty common.

Red Bull set up two parties for everyone where the the Tequila was free, but you had to pay for the beer. Weird.

Adam Comeup has a new found love for guacamole.

Chris Doyle continues to be the nicest guy in BMX. He lent me some Pesos.

Mike Hucker climbed onto the roof with full intentions of jumping into the pool, but when security spotted him, he had to chill up there for a while until they left. I believe Ali Whitton eventually got the job done though.

The park where Elevation was has a stand that rents trampolines, and they had about 50 of them. You can drag them anywhere in the park to jump on them.

Matt Beringer had some bad luck and fell on his face. He had to get stitches and everything. On the plus side, he then wore a huge sombrero and fake mustache the rest of the weekend, which was funny and covered up some of the damage.

Dennis Enarson had the best save of the weekend. He was doing some barspin maneuver and ended up catching the bars backwards. He then railed the berm and did a half barspin back on the next hip jump and kept going. That was rad.

Mexican wrestling masks were popular too. Jerry Badders (above) showed up at the club with one on, and Brian Foster wore one in one of his runs. So funny.

Harrison and I are pooling our photos together for a photogallery, so check back soon for that.

Cam White rode amazing, deserved the win for sure.

This wasn’t really a post on results and such though, so I linked to Ride for all that.
