My Next Car

aptera123

While reading about this badass machine in the latest Intersection and Wallpaper magazines over the last few weeks, I learned that the dude who designed the Mclaren F1 has really taken things to the next level by combining efficiency with performance to a degree that no one else has… I’ll give you the quick rundown so you’ll be enticed to read this comprehensive list of answers .

The Aptera achieves 300 mpg by focusing on weight savings and aerodynamics to the nth degree. There are plenty of safety features, and does 0-60 in 10 seconds. The fact that it only has three wheels places it in the category of a motorcycle, which gets you motorcycle privileges (i.e. puts you in the carpool lane) with passenger car safety. It’s got a modern minimal interior and it looks like something dope from the 1960s. Naturally, it’s white.

In summary, the Aptera has 4-6 times the fuel economy (and style) of a Prius for a couple thousand bucks more. At a fraction of the price of the Tesla, it’s almost like a more efficient Ariel Atom (albiet a bit slower) that you could actually put a pretty girl in (or even two; it has a back seat), drive to Palm Springs and valet at the Orbit and not look out of place.

The articles you read make it sound like some concept slated for 2014 that may or may not make it to production… but actually the Aptera is already priced at $26k (all electric) or $29k (hybrid, 300 mpg) and is available for pre-ordering right now.

wow, if this is real, it is truly incredible. popular mechanics took out the non-hybrid version, i’m really beginning to think this is the real deal. this car could be revolutionary.
