hmm. i’m not sure what i think about this video. the idea and concept is very different and original; i don’t think i’ve seen anything like this in recent times. and i think it’s cool for people to be exploring different mediums. there’s just something about the quality that sort of nags at me while i watch it. i dunno. i’m kind of indifferent. sorry for the negativity, i usually don’t like comment negative things on here, i just wanted to state my opinion.

  2. Richon 31 Dec 2007 at 6:19 pm

The concept isn’t anyhting new..there have been hundreds of videos made on vhs and im sure there still are. It’s just a video of us having fun, that’s the end of it.

  3. Andrewon 31 Dec 2007 at 6:37 pm

right, i was just saying that you just don’t see many bmx videos being shot with VHS today; the concept seemed more original by today’s standards, that’s what i meant to say. you said it was a video of you guys having fun, and if that was your goal with the video, you definitely suceeded, it had a very good, fun vibe to it. i really wanted to get out on my bike and shred while watching it.

  4. Richon 31 Dec 2007 at 6:42 pm

Then mission accomplished. Riding bikes around is funner then setting up elaborate shots with expensive cameras.

Who needs HD. Good video. Sort of brings you back to when you first starting filming your friends riding you didn’t care how it looked.

  10. BROWNon 31 Dec 2007 at 8:34 pm

dope shit. i like it. fuckin cameras were such a pain in the ass back then.

was it with a full size tape, or the smaller tapes that fit in the vhs adapter?

Am I not being patient and waiting for this thing to load? I see nothing. Just the Defgrip black and white photo of the LV store. Little help here.

  12. Zachon 31 Dec 2007 at 10:28 pm

yo this video is sweet, it conveys the whole feeling i see when i look at fremont as a whole. this video showed me why i really liked the company and its because they don’t try to look “cool”…. the riding speaks for it self…props!

  13. LinoGon 31 Dec 2007 at 10:41 pm

that was awesome. im def feelin the old school vibe. i have old vhs tapes of me n my boys ridin around back in the day that look like that. its def tough luggin around one of those full size vhs cameras too hahha. its nice to see something that has a concept instead of the usual trick after trick type stuff.

  16. Kyleon 01 Jan 2008 at 1:28 am

  25. steveon 01 Jan 2008 at 12:27 pm

really loved the vibe of the video, and it made me want to ride. by todays standards the video was incredibly original. i just got bored after a while. would love to see that style integrated into a full length dvd.

  26. andrewon 01 Jan 2008 at 1:22 pm

Eh, i’m calling foul. That video is about as original as Lotek Half Cabs.

Sam Salganik and The Gonz handled the VHS/janky edit thing last year:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6ewaRuA0OQ

That being said, bmx is best when it’s raw and documenting it with inexpensive, easy to use cameras is a nice fit.

Never seen that video before, when did it come out? They definetly got a way cooler camcorder for that shit, it really looks old. The whole idea for this video camer %100 from watching 2-hip “Ride Like A Man” we watched that shit almost everyday at the bike shop last winter and I decided to do my best to make something like it. Plus I don’t have the money for an expensive video camera.

Like i said above it’s not that original of a concept, you see it in movies all the time lately where they show old shit and chop the edits up, like how they edited those grindhouse movies.

  28. Richon 01 Jan 2008 at 1:34 pm

    joecookie…

Yo! Yep same day, i forgot where you there?

  29. andrewon 01 Jan 2008 at 1:41 pm

I think it came out at the beginning of 2007. I just found the whole thing on google video, if you want to check it out: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-6692836945529757238&hl=en

Ride Like a Man is so ill.

  30. Richon 01 Jan 2008 at 1:52 pm

Shit looks dope other then skateboarding being extremly boring to watch….to me at least. This was definetly in the works before that, I spent the last 3 or 4 months of 2006 collecting the cameras for this. The original concept was I was buying a camera for each team guy to film whatever he wants in his own area then put it all together, which is a big perk of the cheap cameras since I couldn’t afford 1 of whats considered a good camera now let alone 4. dan lacey still has his so there should be a second video of just him if all pans out eventually.

  31. andrewon 01 Jan 2008 at 2:11 pm

cool man, I’ll look out for that.

    NICE! Nodout about it.

  39. joshon 01 Jan 2008 at 7:32 pm

hi, i just watched the vid it was old school/new school, it like fits what you dudes do, but what i liked alot is the designs of da tees, all native just like me

  40. Drewon 01 Jan 2008 at 8:30 pm

I’m not into the concept of making videos look old. Expecaly when you have many high quality cameras and tons of skill with editing amazing videos. I really like edits like the Ian/Lotek from awhile back. BMX came a long way to have high quality HD videos and it did for a reason: its better.

  41. Alex @ Give D!on 01 Jan 2008 at 8:34 pm

I was on my normal everyday visit on the site and I came across the Fremont vid.Questioned the quality at first then realized after watching it and reading the caption for the edit…..I understood it completely with that Vintage style that Fremont is going for. Then I realized its kickass.I’m a little slow sometimes.Fun on bikes with the homies and quality shredding.D on that my dudes…

  42. richon 01 Jan 2008 at 10:19 pm

I don’t have an expensive camera… Just these 4 half way working vhs-c camcorders. I sued to have a Panasonic one but it fell aprt. It’s just a video, there are a 100 a day and this one is a bit different then the other 99 but will be forgotten just as quick.

  43. Andy Gon 02 Jan 2008 at 4:07 am

man that shit was awesome. i have so many old videos of my friends tryin shit and havin fun
only diff is these dudes are total badasses. seriously so many hot moves in there. good job rich, eddie, ian, n chase
eddies hurricane fakie on the dirt quarter was FIRE!

  44. bdubbson 02 Jan 2008 at 11:54 pm

Bring back Rain Men Rich, you wont!

  45. Viktoron 03 Jan 2008 at 12:17 pm

That edit was pretty good, was it cut analog?

  46. chrison 03 Jan 2008 at 7:11 pm

Hey man why dose it say :LIFE.” at the top of the page, as if it is a title of a project. Im pretty sure Teddy Van Orman has bee runin “LIFE?” (his own project now a mag) for what seem to be an endless amount of years.Im not sayin you stole it but steeling aint cool.

  47. Alex @ Give D!on 04 Jan 2008 at 4:35 am

    ^ What?? LIFE.

….As in riding bikes and having fun with the homies = LIFE. Analyzing the wrong way perhaps?

  48. shut upon 04 Jan 2008 at 12:31 pm

are you kidding me? i can’t even begin to list thing’s that have used the title ” life” in it ted van orman is the man but no one stole his title to a magazine no one has ever seen.

  49. richon 04 Jan 2008 at 1:08 pm

Sorry about that , no offense to Ted, I like his stuff a lot. It has no title… When Harrison put it up he asked for some sort of description or title and I thought that summed it up well. It’s just an edit for the internet, no title necessary.

  50. Drewon 06 Jan 2008 at 6:48 pm

A sick video, one cool enough to make me want to stick to vhs or hi8 tapes. Good vibes for sure.

  51. jonnyon 11 Jan 2008 at 6:02 am

so before i saw rich’s post about him not knowing about gnar gnar (the pretty limited edition skate video released last year by Mark Gonzalaes, shot and sold solely on vhs) I was thinking ‘oh here he goes stealing his ideas from skae brands again - altamont, half cabs and now this’

but if thats not the case then good on you it looked really good and had a great vibe.

still one of the best videos on he web ive seen regardless of my cynical views

  52. mikeyon 11 Jan 2008 at 4:21 pm

too many haters analyzing too much.
the man wanted to have fun with some old cameras and thats what he did.
it shies away from the xgames view of bmx and really gives you the feel of bmx hanging out with your friends, which is how it all started int he first place. well done.
