Edward Burtynsky

For some reason I think we may have posted on this guy before… or maybe not… Anyway I saw a movie last night called Manufactured Landscapes, witch had a film crew follow photographer Edward Burtynsky through China as he captured timeless photographs of the Chinese civilization, and the manufacturing workforce. I thought the film was done very well, using very slow dramatic shots, and scored suitably, leaving you totally immersed. The film has very subtle commentary from the photographer and very little dialog as well. definitly depicting that action speaks louder than words. I can definitely say that after I watched this, it made me realize how good we have it over here and to appreciate the job I have much more.

Even ABC News chose to include this photo

Images of 2007′. One of the topics Burtynsky also covers in his work throughout the film.

It’s good to see posts like this on a bmx site. I’ve seen the movie and the guy’s book, they are some pretty amazing images. It’s almost not fair, this guy gets into all the biggest craziest stuff and sort of cancels the whole photographic subject out. For those who haven’t considered it, these photos are a reflection of what is required from the rest of the world for our society (American, western) to function as it does.
