Tabletop – Minneapolis, MN
These photos are overflow from Eric’s interview in the April 2012 issue of BMX Plus!. Everything we shot for that piece was pretty organic and unplanned, and these shots were no exception. I typically have no idea what to expect when getting together with Eric, it could be a day something insane gets pulled or on the other hand we just ride a 1ft flat rail and chill. One of my biggest fears is missing an opportunity for a great shot, so I usually lug my bag with me either way.
On the day these images were taken, Eric pulled together a crew that consisted of a few of his roommates and a couple other guys from Minneapolis to ride the University of Minnesota campus. Although no set plans were made, it turned out to be a crazy-productive day. Eric and I shot a treeride turndown to fakie within the first 15 minutes of getting on campus that ended up making it into print. Next, while a few of the guys grabbed pizza, I got another shot with another member of the crew (Mini-Mark) for a web piece. Later that evening everyone had pretty much headed home, but Eric was still feeling motivated. We showed up at the harsh bank spot featured in these photos and wanted to do get something a little unique. I was trying to channel a dark, almost spotlight feel to the images to really highlight the power of the trick. Only working with 2 flashes ended up being a challenge, and created a few too many shadows in the wrong places. Still, we were happy with the results, and called it a day. I’m just glad I brought my photo bag.
