Paul Thomas Anderson – The Master

I already know this film will be incredible. The Master is the latest movie from one of my favorite directors, Paul Thomas Anderson, who directed Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood to name a few. Staring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix the story is about a new religion that is being launched just after World War II. The story is said to be based on the creation of Scientology and because of this there has been some controversy around the film. Not sure if it is related, but this is also the very first film Paul Thomas Anderson has done with out his long time collaborator and cinematographer Robert Elswit… None the less, the cinematography looks amazing. Check out some stills and trailers after the jump!

Philip Seymour Hoffman looks dependable as always based on the trailers (a compliment) but Joaquin Phoenix just looks straight sick (again, another compliment). should be good!

“In May 2012, Anderson reportedly screened the film for actor Tom Cruise, his friend and outspoken scientologist, who had some issues with some parts of the film. Cruise had previously starred in Anderson’s 1999 film Magnolia, receiving an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his work. Officials of the church, who reportedly heard from Cruise, “hit the roof” when they learned of a scene which suggests the belief system was a product of the leader’s imagination. The scene which Cruise had issues with has a character tell [Quell] that Dodd is just making it up as he goes along. There were other lines that Cruise’s people had issues with, but Anderson is not taking any of it out of the film.” from wikipedia
