Buzz. Coffee. GET IT!! I had to recycle this headline, sorry.

Anyway…. Kevin Porter has recently switched things up. He has made the move back home to Chicago and took up a new riding/working gig with Bow Truss Coffee Roasters.

I asked Kevin some questions about all this (along with some random ones), so click below to check them out.

Thanks to David Leep for the photos.

Lindberg for Lindeberg

One of my favorite photographers, Peter Lindberg, who I’ve posted about before shot the most recent campaign for the clothing brand J.Lindeberg. I’ve never really been into J.Lindeberg, but these images look great and I pretty much love everything Peter Lindberg does. It also looks like they are going to be creating a book from the campaign, which is very cool… You can check out some of the image on this site as well as possibly one of the all time shakiest behind the scenes videos from the shoot of all time. Not sure how you can make something that shaky, but it’s fun to see Peter Lindberg in action and you can catch a glimpse of him with a Panasonic GF1 around his neck.

Paul Thomas Anderson – The Master

I already know this film will be incredible. The Master is the latest movie from one of my favorite directors, Paul Thomas Anderson, who directed Boogie Nights and There Will Be Blood to name a few. Staring Philip Seymour Hoffman and Joaquin Phoenix the story is about a new religion that is being launched just after World War II. The story is said to be based on the creation of Scientology and because of this there has been some controversy around the film. Not sure if it is related, but this is also the very first film Paul Thomas Anderson has done with out his long time collaborator and cinematographer Robert Elswit… None the less, the cinematography looks amazing. Check out some stills and trailers after the jump!

Mitch Hedberg

“I know people who believe in ghosts but don’t believe in themselves. It’s kind of sad. Okay you don’t think you’ll ever make it as a musician, but last night you saw a translucent caveman.”

Sigur Rós Varúð video by Ryan McGinley

Sigur Rós reached out to a handfull of people to create music videos for their latest album. Giving everyone the same budget and complete creative freedom, there have been some really interesting videos so far.

The latest video was shot by photographer Ryan McGinley and features a girl with no shoes (or pants) skipping all over New York City while wearing a gold wig that sparkles. Kind of a random description, but it’s a really great video. Our good friend Chad Moore worked on the video as producer and first camera… and I can’t forget to mention that every shot was filmed from a rooftop.

You can watch the video above and learn more about the project as well as watch all the other films that have been shot so far no the Sigur Rós website.

Detroit Never Stops

Red Bull Creation – “Create The Future Episode 1″ from joe cookie on Vimeo.

Checking in with filmmaker and longtime friend of Defgrip Joe Cookie, here’s one of his latest projects: A quick look at the activities of artist Ryan C. Doyle, a “mechanical and interactive artist” who repurposes the decayed ruins of Detroit landscapes to fuel his art, both literally and figuratively.

Ryan sends an optimistic message about Detroit by embracing its unique qualities and all the weirdness that comes along with a city that’s been through so much. Rather than employing a “me too” attitude or comparing Detroit to other cities more known for their art, Ryan uses his mechanical skills to create art and environments quite far removed from what you’d find anywhere else.

Easy On The Extras

Easy On The Extras is a new image blog that you should bookmark ASAP. Brought to you by good friend and Defgrip contributor, Mike Ardelean, you’ll find a great mix of cars, clothes, and other awesome stuff… with a focus on the cars. Spending time on the site is making me want a car again so bad… I haven’t been paying much attention to cars since I’ve been living in New York for the past few years… Just wishing I had a brownstone in the West Village with a secrete garage that could house a collection of vintage Porches… One day… hahah… For now, check out Easy On The Extras!

Why not just use a real camera?

Yes. For just $250, you too can have your iPhone look like an optometrists office.

Nothing makes me want to drop more internet acronyms (WTF, LOL, SMH, GTFOOH) than absurd iPhone camera accesories. Are people really buying this shit? I might be mistaken, but we all have iPhones for the ease it provides. Once you start carrying extra bits and/or the thing no longer fits in your pocket, than the purpose is defeated. Right? The fact that an iPhone can already take amazing photos should be good enough, but no, we want more. Even if you already have real camera gear, don’t worry, you too can take a few steps backwards. ROFL.

I know some of you want the dopest instagram photos on the block, but come on. I am willing to give a pass to the cute little wide angles though. BUT THAT’S IT!!!!!!

I’ve never actually seen much of this stuff out in the wild, but there must be a market for it if people are still trying to get stuff like this off the ground.

For me personally, I’ve noticed that I’m using my iPhone in place of my film P&S more these days for casual daily photos, which is pretty interesting. This is partly due to instagram and a few sweet photo apps (which is all I need to get my iPhonography on). I’m guessing some of you are probably in the same boat as well.

Where am I going with all this? Basically, don’t be this guy.

Will Smyth Discusses DIG Magazines Future Plans.

courtesy of DIG

DIG recently sent advertisers a private email informing them of the magazines future re-launch plans. These plans include a shift in editorial direction, magazine size and making it available free through bike shops (while still being available on newsstands). These changes will take place with the next issue which will be available in September, and each issue will be treated as a “special edition” and follow a central theme.

I’m a super DIG fan and look forward to whatever they’re cooking up.

To avoid any misinformation on all this, I hit up Will Smyth (DIG’s founder) with some questions about it all. Click below to check it out.
