Steve Jobs 1955 – 2011

What can be said that hasn’t been said already. It’s tragic that he died at such a young age and the first thought that went through my head when I heard about him passing away was… He can’t die yet, he still has so much to do!

To be alive and experience what Steve Jobs has done for the world first hand has been pretty amazing and it gives me chills to sit here and look at my desk, staring at all the products he has created that have enabled me to do what I do and help me create a life for my self that I love. Steve Jobs will be deeply missed and his effect on the world, not just with technology, but with his design sensibility and taste will last forever.

The internet is going to be filled with Steve Jobs related stories for the next while, but a few that I have really enjoyed so far have been a full documentary posted on Wanken, an interactive timeline from New York Times, and a video timeline from CNN.

Full Glory

Any trip to the Glory Hole is an adventure, and this edit shows that. For those who are not familiar, the Glory Hole is a massive rideable concrete drainage pipe in somewheresville, and you need to raft to get there. Adventure for sure. See pics HERE. Edit by Brian Chu.

Thanks to Kyle Emery Peck, who is also photo-blogging on a new site called FULL FRAME COLLECTIVE.

Flywheel Hybrid Bike

Reuters is reporting that a 22 year-old New York college grad Maxwell von Stein has designed a bike with a flywheel that works on a similar principle as the hybrid car. The flywheel is a 15 pound, cast iron fly-wheel taken from a car engine, then mounted on the middle of the bike frame and fitted with a continuously variable transmission to the rear wheel. Kinetic energy is transfered to the flywheel when slowing down via a twist-shift embedded in the grip, and that energy helps with a boost when you need to get going again. Seems like a really interesting system, and best of all, it doesn’t use batteries.

Hit this link to check out the news report video on Reuters.

What do you think of the system? Could we be seeing this on mainstream bikes in the future?

Jean Paul Goude

I’ve been a fan of Jean Paul Goude for years, but just spent some time over the weekend, digging through his site again… and I thought I’d post a bunch of the images that I saved. Keep reading to check them out and make sure to brush up on your Jean Paul Goude via his site or the documentary (basically just a three part montage of his work) that you can find on youtube, So Far So Goude.
