Joel Barnett was on the latest Mega Tour with the FBM crew and shot a bunch of great photos for a Disposed gallery. Enjoy!
“What happens when you take 11 dudes, put them in a short bus and ship them to Texas? You unmistakeably have an awesome FBM road trip! During the first part of March, the FBM crew of fun-having-bandits, ventured onto Prop’s Mega Tour 10 to shake things up and let the good times do some rolling! We were privileged enough to setup home base in Stew Johnson’s backyard in Austin (thanks again Stew!) and do some freestylin’ around that area of Texas. We had ziplines, airsoft guns, mousetraps, Chief, bottled Coke’s, the pizza/ice cream/taco power trio and some heavy metal jams to keep us stoked along the journey. I managed to snap some disposables of the adventures while off the bike and almost 5 months later, I finally got them developed. Huge thanks to Marco and Props, Steve, Stew, Clint and Matty, Terrell, Keith, Darryl, San Antonio Nick, Corrigan, Joe Rich, the BSD dudes and of course Chief!”
Between sliders and stabilizing products like glidecams, BMX videographers have been going to great lengths to get smooth, steady motion out of their cameras.
But earlier this year Adobe included a new feature in After Effects CS 5.5 called Warp Stabilizer that is pretty startling. Post-production stabilizing technology has been around for a while now, but the improvements made this year seem to be pretty drastic, and there are a few companies fighting this one out. Here are a couple comparisons between AE’s stabilization feature and FC’s Smoothcam for instance. One. Two.
Naturally there is no real substitute for a true steadicam or dolly setup, but this new feature shows potential to be an accessible alternative that BMX filmmakers could make use of. Check out an example video of the stabilization feature above, and hit the jump for a video posted last year that looks to show some of the initial research that went into the technology.
Have any BMX filmmakers out there used this feature on their videos yet? Let us know in the comments!

Mikey Luplow, George Boyd, Grant Casteluzzo, Mike Hinkens & Brandon Hoerres recently took a trip to Milwaukee to film some Mutiny action. George whipped up the edit and Gregory Dickson hooked up the photos.

HERE’S a collection of re-created 100 dollar bills. Some are really terrible, one is guilty of using a stock graffiti font, but most are pretty cool.

Gabe Brooks’ hat with Quintin is available now.
From Quintin:
There are only a handful of people that can live up to the tagline “BE A G”. Gabe is one of them. Once he got out of the system, Mike Ardelean immediately told us he’s on the team, and that we needed to send him a box of hats. As we’ve gotten to know him over the last year or so, it’s become evident that he has a strong mix of characteristics that allow him to persevere through the worst of times and shine at the best of times. There’s something undeniable about Gabe that we wanted to translate onto a hat. We hope by the powers of osmosis that a part of Gabe is instilled into your psyche.
The “Be A G” hat is available HERE now.
