Part 2: What is Your Camera Setup of Choice and Why?

JOEY COBBS
My setup is pretty standard and is made up out of necessity more than anything else.
When I started shooting it was with a Canon so that’s what stuck. I have film cameras, but because it’s expensive to travel and film is a dollar a shot, I shoot primarily with digital cameras. I have a 5D first generation because it has a full frame sensor which is for the true fisheye. I have a high sync transmitter that Jeff Z turned me onto because the sync speed is so slow on the 5D, at 1/200. But with my transmitter buddy, I’m syncing up at around 1/400. The 5d can’t shoot sequences because it’s only rated at 3 frames per second, so I had to get a 7D in order to shoot sequences, at 8 frames per second.
I have 4 quantum q flashes with batteries, although I usually only bring 2 because 4 is crazy heavy on my back so the other two are usually just backup. I love the Qflashs because they are durable as hell, they can shoot forever, they can light a large area, and they cost around 350 bucks for strobe and battery combo on Ebay. I also carry two Vivitar 285s with me cause they’re dirt cheap and can be tossed anywhere to throw some light in a spot. I got a ton of other little techy things like stands, light meters and light boxes but that’s the bulk of it.
