First Look: The Albion #1

Defgrip is happy to present you the cover to Albion #1.

My opinion? The cover looks great and it leaves me excited to see a physical copy. Simple as that.

In case you missed it, we previously interviewed Daniel Benson regarding The Albion, which will have a launch party on the 31st of March (today) in East London. The interview and release party info can be found HERE.

In addition, the Albion guys filmed a quick behind the scenes view of the printing process of the first mag. The video also contains little previews as people flip through copies. Click below to check that out.

Thanks to the Albion crew for hooking us up with all this.

FEATURE: MAKING “LAST CHANCE”

The Demolition crew have just about wrapped up filming for their latest project, Last Chance. It’s all being put together now, and a premier is roughly scheduled for sometime in April.

Considering the team and the amount of time that’s been put into this project, I figured it would be cool reach out to main dudes with parts and get their take on working on the video.

I asked them all one simple question:
What comes to mind from your time filming for this video and the sessions?

Click below to check it out.

Please note, there’s plenty more riders featured in split parts and mix sections.

Thanks to Joey Cobbs, Brian Castillo and Chris Long for the pics and help.

Minimal Branding

Here’s a rad design exercise in keeping shit simple when it comes to packaging. I understand shoppers need to be stimulated somehow, but I feel like most of these examples end up looking better than the original. A lot of OG logos are timeless, and some of these do end up looking a bit generic super stripped down, but this is interesting to see anyway. Please note, these are not real.

Part 2 just went up HERE, and part one can be seen HERE.

The 2nd part added an additional super stripped version.

Design by Antrepo.

Magnum: Chernobyl Legacy by Paul Fusco

The above picture was taken by Paul Fusco in an orphanage in Belarus. It is of Sasha, at the time a four and a half year-old, affected by radiation from Chernobyl.

Next month will mark the 25th-year anniversary of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. With the Fukushima nuclear crisis still ongoing, governments around the world have been reassessing their commitments to nuclear energy and the viability of trying to control its immense power.

Supporters of nuclear argue that alternatives such as coal are, in the grand scheme of things, more damaging to human civilization. Detractors point to Chernobyl, and now the crisis Japan faces. But no matter which camp you’re in, I urge you to watch this incredibly powerful and absolutely heart wrenching slideshow by Magnum’s Paul Fusco, who documented the horrific consequences of the world’s worst civic nuclear accident. See it here.

Film Boards

Props has a cool feature up on their site where they interview a bunch of BMX filmers who use skateboards to film. It’s a pretty interesting read, and a topic I’ve never really given much thought to.

If you find that interesting, check out our old post about which cameras certain filmers use and why.

Cleggy!

Cleggy Rowlands is next in line in the “At Home With” series.

-

We spent the weekend of the Case jam with Cleggy and as well as riding he talks about T1, Notion store, being vegan, and hits some historic Leeds spots during a classic UK winter weekend.

Luckily Dan Barber steps in to provide some hammers after Cleggy decided to drink all the beer on the Saturday night.
