Simpel Session 2011

The time is coming for Simpel Session 2011. Read on for all the info:

It is our great pleasure to announce the 11th coming of Simpel Session, the one true wintertime skate and BMX event that will have everybody in the sport talking for months to come!

Check out our brand new website on www.session.ee, and keep track of all the latest news, fun stuff, offers and additions to the line-up.

The preparations are in full swing, and we are stoked to say the line-up just keeps looking better and better. We have already listed some of our all-time favorite riders and there’s many more to come. In BMX we have the legendary two-time Simpel Session gold medalist Garrett Reynolds, the German rising star Bruno Hoffmann, last years finalist Kevin Kiraly (USA) and bronze medalist Ben Wallace (UK), to name a few. Not to mention all the best Nordic and Baltic BMX street riders that qualified from our Summer Session event in Helsinki. The skate line-up is starting to look neat too – the one and only Canadian pro-skater Chris Haslam has confirmed, as well as our skate champ in 2009, Axel Cruysberghs (BEL), who has healed from his last years accident at SS10 practice, and will be competing this year. There are many surprises to come, so stay tuned and keep an eye on http://www.session.ee/2011/riders

Simpel Session 11 festival will go down on 5-6th of February 2011 in Tallinn, Estonia, as one of the first highlight events of the Tallinn European Capital of Culture 2011 program. This means the contest will feature several side events this year, beside the infamous party program, such as BMX and skate film screenings and themed photo exhibition, setting off already on the 2nd of February.

Get Perforated.

I’ve been running the perforated INCASE case on my 3G for a while now, and I’m stoked on it. It’s light, sweet looking and has just enough grip without being a bitch to get in and out of your pockets.

Now all you iPhone 4/iPad users can get in on the action too.

Surely you can’t be serious…

Leslie Nielsen has passed away at 84 due to complications with pneumonia.

I grew up with movies like Airplane and Naked Gun, which are both classics in my opinion. This dude definitely makes me laugh.

Randy Taylor

Randy Taylor is coming out of a long recovery period (9 months) after tweaking his leg, and is slowly getting back on it.

Peep this little edit from Mutiny, it’s the first time he’s been on his bike in a while.

Visualator

Over the last week, a bunch of random triangular illustrations popped up in my Flickr contact updates. Upon further investigation, one of the dudes I follow had a hand in creating an iPhone app for Computer Arts and Computer Arts Projects magazine. The app is called Visualator, and was created solely with Flash CS5 as an interactive showcase for what’s possible with the platform.

I downloaded the FREE app and messed around a bit with the “Triangulate” portion and created the amazingness you see above. Take a screen shot cuz this will be worth millions in a few years. I don’t know if I will be on this app everyday, but it is definitely fun to have and mess with. You can get crazy with it I’m sure.

If you’re a fan of colors/shapes/textures/artsy-stuff-in-general and have an iPhone, check out Visualator.

Kachinsky O.T.R.

Brian Kachinsky is awesome. Justin Kosman is awesome. Win win.

The Freedom Tunnel

The Freedom Tunnel is a famous NYC graffiti landmark (of sorts), and has been around for a minute. This “self-portrait” by Chris “freedom” Pape, is probably one of the most famous images from the tunnel. I yoinked that photo from City Noise.

The edit above by Charles le Brigand gives you a good feel of what it’s like down there.

QUADS: NEW YORK CITY

Haha, this is nuts. Glen PP Milligan just sent this through. Mad respect to dudes doing wheelies on the highway. I just had crazy flashbacks after watching this.

From Glenn:

A few years ago I produced a four wheeler DVD. One of the segments featured people who ride 4 wheelers in NYC. I always wanted to re-edit the section with a better track. So here it is. It was all filmed on a SONY DVX2100, BOLEX 16mm and a really crappy mic. This is real street riding and these dudes are crazy.

IKEA

I love when brands/companies can poke fun of themselves (i.e. like THIS)

Anyone whose bought some kind of Ikea furniture, has definitely gone through some confusion with the assembly instructions. Which is why I found THIS SERIES of ads from Ikea Europe promoting their new “assembly service” pretty sweet.

Shadow Southwest Edit/Lookbook

Win a free couch from ATG & Environment

So the other day Nick and I are having a drink at the bar (and by drink I mean Nick is having a sparkling water, and by bar I mean the actual fully stocked bar in Jim Bauer’s new house) and Nick is running me through a whole gang of photos on his new camera. We come across a moody portrait of a gentleman with a shaved head and substantial beard wearing a military jacket. He looks like one of those dudes in LA who could either be a millionaire or homeless (judge not lest ye be judged) and I say wow that guy looks interesting, what’s his story?

Turns out dude is Italian, owns this furniture store and is a big fan of Nick’s photography and wants to give away one of his sofas on Nick’s other website.

So here we are. To give you an idea of what you’re entering to win, I’ll leave you with an excerpt from Nick, and I’ll leave it at that.

“What’s better than a comfortable, modern chair made in California? How about a comfortable, modern chair made in California, wrapped in rare, Korean War era USMC Mitchell camouflage and FREE. The good people at Environment Furniture and I happen to have just that.”

Do it.

Here’s an edit the Subrosa dudes put together in Seamus’ warehouse.

From Ryan Sher:
Here’s a little warehouse edit we did on the G.U.T.I. trip to North Carolina. It’s also the same trip as our “Disposed”, and the Ride BMX article. They’re Seamus’ ramps in his parents barn. He also has a 3 legged goat there. The edit features Hoang Tran, Scott Ditchburn, Miles Rogoish, Seamus McKeon and myself.
