Oakley / Chase Hawk

We went out to Austin, TX over the summer with Oakley to hang out, film, shoot photos with Chase Hawk, and put together some features on Defgrip to introduce him to the Oakley team. During our weekend in Austin, we just chilled, rode, swam, partied, and brought the camera with us every where we went. During the shoot, Chase was riding a custom built Cult frame, built up with Odyssey products, and some custom Oakley graphics. The bike was on display at Interbike and will be traveling around showing up a different trade shows and events for the next few months.

Keep reading to check out the video and check back in a week or so for a full photogallery of Chase!

The Get Up and Get Down

Our good friend Nick Maggio, from A Time To Get, has created a new site called The Get Up and Get Down. Focusing on hand crafted products from individual artists, designers, and craftsmen, the site has a great collection of products ranging from hand made knives to table lamps (pictured above). Along with featuring other peoples products, there is a “how to” section with a wide range of step-by-step guides to create your own – for example – canoe for under $200… among numerous other awesome things. The Get Up and Get Down, is definitely worth a few hours of your day and if you are like me and have moved into a new place recently, this is also a great source of inspiration to keep your house as Ikea free as possible!

Them Thangs Magazine

This might be old news for some, but the magazine from the always talked about image blog – Them Thangs – is news to me! Curated by Them Thangs creator Justin Blyth, the zine consists of a collection of work from 13 artists, designers, and photographers. With an initial run of 1,000 copies and only around 100 left you can pick up the magazine online or at a select few retailers around the world. Check out all the info here and keep reading to see more of the magazine.

Carryology

Being a bag geek, I was stoked today to come across a blog called Carryology. Need a recommendation for a carry-on, wheeled bag, or something $100 and under? Carryology has great posts for that, but they also explore other issues involving carrying things such as the hopelessness of suitcase locks, why laptops challenge traditional bag design, and the different way to carry keys and even babies. If you’ve ever been frustrated with a clunky bag setup while commuting or traveling, be sure to give this blog a visit!

COMUИE’S 2nd Annual Karlson Tea Party

We posted on the Karlson Tea Party at COMUИE last year and this year they are back with another great event. Kevin Kiraly’s Cartel Frame

Here’s a video from Verde with Kevin Kiraly with some riding clips as well as some words about his new Verde Cartel signature frame. The only problem, is Kevin forgot to mention the most important part of his frame… The fact that there’s a weiner dog on his seat tube… haha! Check out the edit after the jump.

Defgrip X Quintin hat in stock

We have a small batch of the Defgrip X Quintin hats in stock on our online store right now. The quantities are really small and based on all the positive response, they will probably sell out real fast, so we just want to apologize in advance if you aren’t able to pick one up. We are in the process of working on a larger run of hats, so keep an eye out for those, and while your at it, pick up one of the Defgrip beanies now that the weather is getting cold!! (p.s. we ship anywhere in the world!)

Interbike

Soooooo, another year of Interbike has come and gone. You may have already seen a bunch of coverage from the show, but in case you missed anything, go HERE, HERE, or scour BMX FEED.

Besides getting to see and chill with everyone (which is the best part of Interbike), the overall most memorable moment for me/everyone was Chris Doyle winning Dirt Rider of the Year. That dude rules. Seeing Hoder go crazy with Doyle’s Nora Cup was equally as classic, haha…

Click below to check out a video of that, courtesy of Ride BMX.

Shout out to Corey Martinez and United too.

Hugh Lippe

So… 6 days with out any posts. That could be a new record for Defgrip. I guess that’s what a week in Las Vegas will do to you… To kick things back off, check out some photography from Texas born photographer Hugh Lippe. Along with a well edited portfolio of fashion and lifestyle work, Hugh has a really fun sketchbook section of his site that you should definitely check out.
