FBM GOODS

Crandall just informed me of some new FBM goodies. Click HERE to check it all out.

Old Record Covers

Old records have the best artwork. The large format and the styles of back in the day make for some rad visuals.

The owner of Jive Time Records in Seattle must agree, as he has 2 sites dedicated to album covers. He simply scans the covers and posts them. Check out Groove Is In The Art and Project Thirty Three.

While we are on the topic, be sure to check out Sleeve Face and Sleevage too.

The Mast Brothers

Our friend Ed David recently shot this awesome piece on the Mast Brothers for The Scout. Ed actually said it Best – so to quote, “A short documentary about two brothers, chocolate-makers, that are bringing craft back to the U.S. in an age of automation and the dulling of the American creative vision. We filmed them before they took off to set sail and to explore where their chocolate comes from.” I personally find this piece fascinating for many reasons, but how awesome would that be to sail across the world in search of goods! Respect!

David Rubin photography

I met David Rubin this year while living in New York. Actually he happened to live a few doors down from me, just until recently when he decided to move due to intolerable Puerto Rican’s bumping their absurd car stereo’s, and PG-13 motorcycle gangs that jam Creed at all hours of the night! I’m super psyched on his photos though, and wanted to share it with Ya’ll as David would say. From Austin, TX originally and now an NYC transplant! check out his work. Below are some of my personal favorites!

Jack Bool Disposable Photos

Jack Bool hit us up with this rad email the other day:

“Hey guys, I just wanted to give Defgrip I shout out and say whats up. The site you guys have going is super rad and it hits on all of my main interests. I’m really digging your disposed series and it inspired me to start messing around with some disposable cameras myself. I have an old raynox fisheye that I hold in front of the cameras and it makes some shots look pretty dope. I just went on a road trip to So Cal and the Sierras with a few of my homies and brought along a few disposables. You should check out how the shots turned out on my flickr. It’s half BMX and half hiking and such.”

Keep reading to see a few of Jack’s photos and check out the whole set on his Flickr – flickr.com/photos/jackbool

Josef Hoflehner

We posted on Josef Hoflehner‘s photos before when we covered his Jet Airliner series, but after a re-visit to his site and some time spent on the rest of his portfolio, his work deserves another post. His landscape/cityscape photos are breathtaking and I love the consistency with his colors and contrast.

RIP Silverlake Walker

Any of you LA locals or visitors are probably familiar with the Silverlake Walker. You were guaranteed to see him any time you visited Silverlake. Sometimes I’d be taking someone new through the neighborhood, and I’d be telling them all about this guy, and then all of a sudden he would appear and walk right in front of us. Always shirtless, walking fast, always reading.

Just found out he died yesterday. People always thought he was crazy or homeless… but check out the video below the article! He was married and a retired doctor. Wow.

Here’s the article with video.

Disposed: Team Major Air

Most of Team Major Air is comprised of hardworking stiffs. The Gypsy Tour provides a vacation that we are able to take with a group of our best friends. Our plans were fairly simple. Figure out a place that we wanted to ride, and then get there and ride it. Where we stayed that night was never a primary concern. The trip took TMA from the depths of Long Island to the top of the Green Mountains. It was a pleasure to travel with these guys.

Laurent Nivalle Photography

I was originally led to Laurent Nivalle via THIS Le Mans Classic gallery. I admittedly know nothing about Le Mans, but the photos are dope and look awesomely vintage

There are a bunch of rad series and photos tucked away on his site, so click HERE to check it out.

Miami Vice gallery part 1

A while back I started instant-Netflicking the first season of Miami Vice. So many of the scenes were way too good to not take a blurry Blackberry photo of and post on Defgrip.

One of my favorite things about the show, and I’m stating the obvious, is how much attention is paid to the style details. Even the cars are exclusive. Mann could have easily thrown any old Mercedes in there and fooled 90% of the audience, but instead almost every Benz featured was an authentic AMG edition with black grille and Euro bumpers and super rare Penta wheels.

Empire BMX Trailer 2
