I watched a documentary about Steve McQueen and had to rewind this scene a few times. The first diagonal rail hop? According to the movie commentary, McQueen fought hard to be allowed to do this himself, but the stuntman won in the end.

    ‘The Great Escape’ is pretty bad ass for sure… He jumps the shit out of those barbed-wire fences though & then eats shit when the Nazis finally catch him.
