Francis Delapena has a scooter that he’ll drive around town with his bike strapped to the back. I wanted to shoot something that captured the essence of him cruising on the scooter, so when we found these leaves I must’ve asked him to blast through them 20 times because I was so excited about how the photo could turn out if everything worked out right. Compared to BMX photos, riding through leaves on a scooter is probably the only “action photo” I can ask someone to do that many times without getting them killed.
