Remote camera angles are cool and I’m always stoked on seeing the process behind them. Cruising around some photography forums today I stumbled came across the site for Automotive Rigs – a company selling car-mount rigs designed specifically for automotive photographers. Check out some shots from their website and more rig photos after the jump.

Curiosity piqued, I googled around and found a 211-page thread on the photography-on-the-net forums discussing everything automotive car rigs. It’s cool to see all the different set-ups used to get varying angles. If you’re looking for ideas on how you can build your own rig, definitely check out that thread.

Some photographs of people’s set-ups-

And last one, dum dum dum……

That’s it. If you’ve taken any shots like these before be sure to send them in!
EDIT: Just found what seems like a pretty nice how-to on building your own rig on the budget here and another one here.

I was on a gmc denali shoot and they used an all clear lexan arm that was pretty nuts. they rolled the car backwards in neutral on a blocked off on-ramp in LA with 20ks lighting the place up. The exposures were 2-3-ish seconds shot on 4×5. it was intense. one of the PAs shot a disposable camera (flash) off during on of the exposures and the producer almost castrated him. the photog was wearing kahaki shorts and combat boot. was there any doubt he was swedish?
