ROB DOLECKI / DIG MAG

I thought this news was made public weeks ago, but I guess not since I just got an email about it.
Photographer Rob Dolecki is now the managing editor of DIG in the USA, and he will now be shooting exclusively for DIG as well as being involved with the day to day running of the mag. Congrats dude!!
Click HERE for a Rapid Response Q&A on DIG.
Bonus info: Dolecki took various forms of transportation (trains) from NJ (or something) to our trails on Long Island back in the day, and I remember thinking he was nuts for going through all that, haha. Good dude though.
Frank Black – Czar

One of Frank Black’s most fascinating songs.
Explained here.
Bonus: Frank Black doing the song live, with full explanation.

Nine-Ninety

Jared Souney just posted a PDF of a one-off magazine that he put together with Brian Tunney sometime around 1998 titled Nine-Ninety. It’s pretty crazy to check out all the photos and see how many dudes are not riding any more or they are just people I’ve never heard of. I wonder if one day, we are going to be re-publishing our blogs and reminiscing about how rad websites were like how people talk about zines today… hmmm…..

GRINDSTATE

It looks like Grindstate will be back at it soon.
As of now, they have a very NYC promo video up, as well as a prelaunch mixtape that you can download. I enjoyed it, and if you like hip hop, you will enjoy as well. Some Doom?? Yeah.
Ruvan Wijesooriya

Enjoy some more photography today, this time from New York based photographer, Ruvan Wijesooriya. Ruvan stuff is primarily fashion and I was really drawn in by all his colors. He has two sites up with his work. One is his portfolio site and the other, titled Iller Filler, is more of a random photo showcase. Check out some of his work after the jump.

Julius Schulman

I like old things. Julius Schulman is 99 years old, the Case Study #22 house he made so famous is 49 years old, and this article is 2 years old.
Google Image Julius Schulman for a quick look at the work of the man who so stylishly publicized Los Angeles mid century modernism.
Thru You

Smoovebert just sent this over and while we are on the topic of posting cleaver internet shit, I thought everyone would enjoy this. It’s a mash-up of youtube clips mixed together to create a whole album. I thought it was just one track, but no… an album. I tried to just listen to it in the background, but the clips are almost as good as the music. I’m really digging the site as well…
Available for Free Online

Available for Free Online is a collection of some of the funniest/most clever projects I’ve seen in a while. There are three things I think everyone should do. 1 – Go to google, type in “bad ass mother fucker” and press I feel lucky. 2 – download this pdf and look through every page. 3 – watch the video after the jump.

Q&A: KEVIN PORTER & De•li•cious

Kevin Porter recently opened up a coffee shop in Chicago with his wife Chelsea, named De•li•cious Café.
I was stoked and intrigued when I heard about this venture, as it is a departure from the predictable bike shop that you would expect a pro rider to open. Hence, I asked KP some questions about it.
Click below to check it out.
Thanks to David Leep for the pics.
Bad Paintings of Obama

Matt Rubin just sent me this link to a site properly titled badpaintingsofbarackobama.com. The site is just image after image of bad Obama paintings with a beautiful drop shadow on all the jpgs. I know people created these all with good intentions, but it’s still funny to check them all out.
See the great work here – badpaintingsofbarackobama.com
Keep On Running

The 4 Down crew is entering the Hastings Half Marathon on March 15th to help raise money for the Athlete Recovery Fund.
“On the 15th March 4Down will be entering the Hastings Half Marathon and hopes to raise some much needed cash for the Athlete Recovery Fund. The A.R.F. supports professional athletes in BMX, FMX and Skateboarding with financial support after a severe injury and grants funds for rehabilitation, equipment, long-term disability and educational scholarships. This fund is in constant need of support, so we have set up a donate button on the 4Down site for people to give what they can afford for a good cause.

Burn Everything

While I was browsing grafikcache, I came across a new site for Burneverything. A design studio out of Liverpool, England. We’ve posted about them before and I love their work. It’s interesting though how my tolerance for flash sites is getting smaller and smaller. If I know the company or person’s site I’m looking at I’ll give it a shot, but if I come across a new flash site, I find my self closing the page really quick… The Burneverything site is flash, but at least it’s nice and simple.
