This is what I’m talking about… screw the bike lane. If I wanted to be confined to a lane, I could just drive a car! Aside from the obvious health and environmental reasons for bicycling, for me the main point of being on a bike is having the freedom to go wherever you want, no?

Take the bike lane with you.

Via Dustbowl.

Really cool looking. If its affordable, I can see myself getting one of these for my road bike.

just zip tie a maglite to your stem. that’s what I did before I had the $ to get a sweet Cateye lite. there are more ghetto ways like alum foil around your frame or just carry rotten fruit and veggies and chuck em at cars so they know your there…

    cool idea.

wild, but whatever it takes to keep the cars back. i think its neat.

Technically imaginative, but potentially very harmful. This “virtual bike lane” would imply that there is a full car lane to the left (or right) of the cyclist. A car trying to maneuver with a good understanding of bike lanes could create a very dangerous situation with traffic either oncoming or in the same direction. Also it would look completely incomprehensible with riders 2 abreast or one rider passing another.
