Cory Nastazio - 3 of 3

Nov 17, 2008 — Portland, OR

As soon as we came up with the idea to do these interviews, Cory Nastazio was on the top of my list. After trying to meet up a few different times, we got together with Cory in his hotel room in Portland this past September. It was a few hours after Dew Tour dirt finals where he killed it and placed second, his best placing at a contest all year.

Cory Nastazio is like no one I’ve ever met. He is extremely eccentric and has so much energy, that no matter what the situation is, if Cory’s in the room, everyone’s eyes are on him. Cory has been through more in his life than most people can imagine and has the stories to back it up. He’s been one of my favorite bike riders since I started riding and I was extremely excited to be able to interview Cory for Defgrip. In the span of two hours, we got more footage than we knew what to do with and we hope this gives you an insight into Cory Nastazio’s life.

  • scamper

    fucking champ

  • andy

    so good

  • Denver

    brilliant!

  • Kyle

Definitely the most entertaining of all three.

  • Will Stroud

I love how anything goes in these interviews. True raw persona!

  • cuomo

You know what they say about the one who screams “sissy” the loudest!

  • Chris

I was at that strip club when the girl (guy) was all over Corey. I love how the whole world knows now! Nasty doesn’t hold anything back and that’s what makes him so awesome. This was an amazing interview, can’t wait to see who’s next. Keep up the good work!

  • chris

so he hates on the gays… they just cant catch a break….

  • russ

what a fucking douche bag… dude belongs on the jersey shore, fist pumping with the rest of the guidos…

  • http://www.teamcrossroadsbmx.com Andrew

not into the homophobic bullshit whatsoever, anyone that is so against it must have some sort of doubts or questions about themselves. respect for this dude went all over the place in this interview, basically keeping him exactly where i viewed him before.

  • ohio (tom)

Hey Cory let’s make out even though I’m a dude, bro.

  • dikealishishhhhh

    FUCK THE GAYZ
I FEEL EXACTLY WHAT COREY IS SAYINNNN
    SONN

  • lee

    guido.

  • mike

    hahahahahahaha, What a Fucken Champ!

  • matts

lost complete and all respect for this man
its truly sad that some people continue to hate on homosexuals and that they won’t give them a chance. You’re limiting yourself from meeting some great humans. Sucks for you. Please continue your terrible life, homophobs.

i agree completely with andrew – if you’re so diehard antigay you’re obviously not comfortable with your own sexuality.

Nicely done, Defgrip! Look forward to the other interviews.
-to clear up any confusion i am not being sarcastic. they truly capture cory.

  • JP

What an ignorant, arrogant joke to bicycle culture.

    I’m appalled.

  • Ooti

That was awesome. Whether you agree or disagree with Nasty’s view on homosexuals, you have to admit that he is a fucking character.

  • Chriz

After watching all 3 parts and everything this guy had to say, how the fuck can you not like him? So he doesn’t like gays, you can’t expect everyone to have the same views on life. I’d give my left nut to chill with this guy. I don’t think I stopped laughing through out the whole thing. That was fuckin rad! I wish there was a part 4. Too good.

  • Duncan

Hmmm…I don’t know Chriz. I wouldn’t give my left nut to chill with someone who didn’t like gays any more than I’d give my left nut to chill with someone who didn’t like blacks. Not liking a large group of people you haven’t met because of sexual orientation or race is backwards. He also seems like a prize-winning misogynist, but we can’t even begin to broach that subject in BMX since we’re so busy no-homoing each other.

  • http://www.teamcrossroadsbmx.com Andrew

to further what i said previously about not being comfortable with your own sexuality…i am fairly close with a cousin of mine (who is an open homosexual). i once asked him if gay guys ever try to “convert” straight dudes they find attractive, and he informed me that this kind of behavior is a big no no in the gay community. this was verified by another kid i met at school…homophobia is so stupid.

  • jared

i always thought cory was a mong and skipped his shit, be it video part or on props. then after parts 1 and 2 i was feelin him, at least sarcastically. part 3 showed him as nothing more than an ignorant homophobe. boring, predictable shit. i want to see more of these interviews, but stop with the prop 8 bmx. it should be noted that i’m not blaming you, nastazio is old school and said what he said. editing that out would have been taking away from what he is: yesterdays values who happens to ride a bike. but please do a series with somebody fresh that doesn’t make bmxers resemble a pack of homophobes. preferably somebody that doesn’t come across as the physical manifestation of a comment on thecomeup.
this is a request and half a complaint.

to defgrip: keep doing your thing.
to nastazio: grow the fuck up / keep fucking ugly chicks.

  • Julie

“Homosexuality is psychological affliction that is currently gaining acceptance in society.” It’s going to have it’s time, just as religion (another accepted psychological affliction) has had it’s time. When things get tough in the world, we will not have time or use for homosexuals. We are unsustainably comfy right now, so they can have a place as designers and “art directors”, and I reckon that is a valid contribution. Nastazio is a relic of the frontier days when machismo served it’s purpose. All you “progressive” “liberals” should at least understand it for what it is instead of jumping in line with currently fashionable gay rights movement. Another thing, homophobia is such a cunning term. I’m not scared of you, I just think your sexual choices are fucking disgusting… I’ve got one gay friend who calls his lifestyle “population control”. He also calls himself a radical faggot and calls me a “breeder”. He finds us kinda disgusting considering the harm we do to the planet. It’s an interesting point, albeit misanthropic. As far as I’m concerned it’s the swinging of the human rights pendulum a bit too far. As soon as there is a world wide disaster that sets us back into true survival mode, we’ll see people drawing back into racial factions and we won’t have time for this fluff. Hell, lower income areas show this to be true everywhere today. These people are in survival mode, and look how naturally segregation happens in those parts of town. Rampant “homophobia” down there too… No time for fashion and equality when you are busy turning the gears of society. And bar fights are just the soul of man trying to get out, frustrated after work and he don’t know why. Same goes for BMX, we are anxious youth and we have to work hard these days to find our danger. These dull days make you wanna get loaded and fuck something in the ass, anything. In conclusion: We are all fucked. Smile.

  • really

He’s an idiot for sure, but the comments weren’t that bad. I suppose the people he is referring to are the fitted cap, skinny jeans wearing neo punk rock hipster goons he hangs out and smokes crack with out there in the sticks.

  • http://www.holeshotbmx.net Nick

Julie, are you from the Westboro Baptist Church? Or the Manson family?

  • mang

what a fucking douchebag cokehead, i hope he dies

  • Chris Duncan

To all that aren’t understanding this interview.
I’ve known Cory since I was 16(I’m 29). He does care about others and their feelings. If any of you get the chance, go up to Cory and talk to him as a person. I guarantee that your negative opinions will cease. He is a good dude.
If you all remember, Harrison described him as extremely eccentric.
Cory is an entertainer that likes to shock and make people laugh at the same time. In this interview he was doing a sarcastic stand up routine intermittently through out the piece. Remember that this guy loves to ride his bike as an artist. He could not have been doing this for as long as he has if he didn’t love what he does.
It’s my opinion that he is an artist of our culture and if you take a moment to think about it, artists of all cultures tend to go to extremes. All of you got a taste of the real Cory, but remember that he is just entertaining for the sake of entertaining too.

  • steev

@ Chris Duncan you shouldn’t have to apologize for your friend. Cory needs to explain his remarks himself.

Entertainment purposes or not, it is irresponsible of him to talk like that in ‘the BMX media’. The classy thing to do is for him release a statement or leave a reply here, but I wouldn’t hold my breath. The guy is obviously not known for being a class act.

  • Chris Duncan

    Steev,
I totally understand and you’re correct, but I’m not apologizing for him. I just know that the interview was him being him and I totally accept that. No one is a perfect human being and we all say weird things from time to time. The BMX world takes “all kinds” to revolve. When I watch a nature program I rarely get upset by the way a carnivorous animal eats.
    He is a wild animal.

    Basically….
    It is what it is.

    Chris

  • http://joecookie.com cookie

Is this the real Chris Duncan???

  • Chris Duncan

415 233 3741 call if you want to

  • Duncan

Wow. I find Julie’s comment scarier than any of Nastazio’s jocko homo fag bashing. Read Jim Goad’s “Redneck Manifesto” a few too many times, Julie? Glorifying de-evolution by stating the same toothless “race war’s a-comin’” bullshit with polysyllabic words doesn’t make you intelligent. You know who else didn’t have “time or use for homosexuals” (or Jews)? Hitler–he put them in concentration camps. In terms of homosexuals somehow disappearing from the gene pool after a time of crisis (when your long awaited race war, or “people drawing back into racial factions” as you call it, happens), riddle me this: how many major catastrophes and times of crisis have occurred since the ancient Greeks? Plagues, famines, natural disasters, world wars, genocide…has homosexuality “disappeared”? Have people lost “use for it”? No, because it’s not a choice, nor is it a “psychological affliction,” as it was rather famously removed from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders. What’s scarier than ignorance is willful ignorance.

  • superduper

i havent watched any of these.. i can care less about bmx personalities… show riding, who wants to watch a dude talk for 20minutes?

  • matts

    superduper,
how can you not care about someone’s personality? Isn’t that how all relationships are formed? Thats like being a fan of michael vick and not caring about his personality of enjoying to murder dogs.

i’ve read/watched countless articles/videos of riders and have always been curious of what these riders are like outside of your bmx skills. i personally think this is a great idea. INTERVIEW THE ENTIRE METAL BIKE COMPANY TEAM.

  • http://www.revtrails.blogspot.com tim

awesome… still top 3 favorite riders ever…. fuck yeah!

  • http://defgrip a,k,a nasty one!!

sorry to all gays didnt mean too offend you people!!! it came off like i hate them i dont do your thing!!!i just think god made men too be with woman!!! duh

  • superduper

i dont want a relationship of any sorts with nastazio… nothing personal but i can care less about what a clown/asshole/nice guy people are… i dont wanna sit through someone talking with ZERO fucking riding… its a fucking zoom on his face.. fans/groupies care about peoples personal lives.. worry about your own shit..

  • J

So we should teach our kids that being gay is ok? You fuckers are clueless, you have taken the accept everyone and everything shit way too far. I hope your children all grow up to fuck men and you get to accept them and support their decision since you are so open minded. Skin color was a positive genetic mutation depending on the climate and lifestyle requirements of the various continents. Homosexuality has no positive evolutionary quality. If it isn’t chosen, then it is a semi-common mutation/genetic variation that has no lasting benefit in nature.

I think we should give all people with downs syndrome drivers licenses, because it would be hateful if we were to hold that human right back from them. They were born with it. It’s not like they chose it. They want to drive just like the rest of us. We should change the law.

If you disagree, you probably don’t have all your teeth.

  • Duncan

So, J/Julie, do you ride bikes when you’re not, you know, doing wholesome stuff like wearing “God Hates Fags” T-shirts and burning crosses on people’s lawns?

“So we should teach our kids that being gay is okay?” Please tell me you’re not considering breeding. If you have, I suppose you’ve already booked a spot for your facist brood on Springer. Since you seem to be Dr. Spock as well as Charles Darwin, should teach our kids that being hate mongers is okay, right? That gay bashing is okay?

The concept of a bodhisattva is one who waits to attain nirvana until all beings are enlightened. Sort of holding the door open so everyone can get through.

They’re going to have to wait a really long time for you, girl.

You talk about (around) evolution a lot…maybe you should try a little–spiritually. You’re living in a John Locke state of anarchy, where life is nasty, brutish, and short. We’re not knuckle-draggers anymore, Julie. The neolithic age is over, go get a late pass. Aretha Franklin once said something really profound, later to be echoed by Keith Morris: “Put a little love in your heart.”

    Evolve.

  • http://www.myspace.com/givemuthafuckind Alex @ Give D!

Damn Nasty rules, I want to high 5 this guy for kickin ass. He doesn’t give a shit, all you people need to take notes.

  • J

    Mr. McGoo,

You are so cute. You should stick around a bit longer.

  • http://maligmat.wordpress.com/ mark maligmat

    You are all insane….

  • sam s

julie. take this song title to heart and do it. HAMMER SMASH FACE. seems like a lot of the terms you inputed into this dog-gone here intronet walkie talkie movin picture box have quotations. is that because you had to look them up in that there webster’s word meanin’ book? i mean jesus fuckin christ, is this not 2008 goin on 2009? lemme guess, you voted for mccain and shotgun annie too? go back to where you came from and keep your head up your ass to save the rest of us from laughing our asses off at how “brilliant” and “sofisticated” and “smart” you are because you know how to form complete sentences, or did you have your steven hawking machine do it for you? twat.

  • J

Ok, so far I have been compared to Hitler, people have made fun of my teeth, and one kind fellow would like to smash my face in with a hammer. Cannibal Corpse is a wonderful source of inspiration. I DO NOT hate people who identify as gay. I do not follow any religion (cross burning comment) and I think it’s despicable when the 700 club and Reagan said Aids was sent by god as punishment for homosexuals. BUT, I do think that embracing homosexuality as a healthy/acceptable alternative lifestyle will have ill-effects on society. Can you honestly say that you would be just as happy if your son or daughter “turned out” to be gay? Do you know anything about gay culture? I challenge you to look into it. You’ve got the internet, have a look around. I voted for Obama. Have you looked into Barry’s views on the subject? It sounds like there is a lot more hatred toward undereducated folks and people with poor dental coverage than I would expect from such accepting, loving individuals. I hope you told your parents thanks for the braces and the college education. Were you born with that?

  • http://uhuh rissen

ok lets clear this up a little. can we agree that the term gay can be applied to a man who is attracted to a man as cory has agreed. if you have said yes then by that definition cory is gay, he fancied the man who looked like a woman, doen’t matter if they weren’t, doesn’t matter if he found out he had a cock later. too late cory, you are in a deep hole and your digging it deeper now. you cant change the fact the dude looked like lady. so cory has been head F**ked. hilarious. he now carries on his ridiculous homo hating characature monkey on his back, but we all know that no matter what he got a hard on for a dude. Great stuff. so why hate the gays? what would have happened if the dude had had the chop and he now had a pussy and cory had f**kd him. cory gay? cory straight? he got hard for dude that looked like a lady, sounds like cory’s attracted to images and is cut off from the truth about his sexuality. what’s clear is that cory’s actually a fella with a lot of fears and he’s just like a lot of folks out there, though no where near as frightening as the brainwashed and julie who should really try a little harder to understand why she says these things and get to the bottom of why her mind is like that of a dinosaur. the way cory talks about fucking an ugly chick made me laugh, like if you could paint pictures of souls i dont think that his would be too pretty, again we are down to cory’s addiction to images. big tits etc etc. i just think that i’m glad cory’s come out in the open about being gay and i praise him for it. i have never had a hard on for a guy yet, in a dress or a pair of trousers, so hats off cory for being open minded enough to admit you are by definition one right “gayboy.” he can ride a bike though, quite well for a gay.

  • http://www.teamcrossroadsbmx.com Andrew

J, please let us in on what “ill effects” will happen to society in regards to homosexuality?

  • J

Hi Andrew, thank you for your question. Now the first and most obvious ill effect can be summed up in two words: Anal Prolapse. That’s right, ass tulips. This ugly little secret of homosexuality never gets the mainstream attention it deserves. The medical costs alone, with growing rates of homosexuality, have the potential to cripple our bulletproof economy. And we haven’t even considered the social and psychological implications of fecal incontinence. Look, It took billions of years for God to design the perfect asshole valve. Well, almost. He had originally planned to “release” a two-way asshole but the funding just wasn’t there. The big guy threw up his hands on the seven billionth day, said fuck it, and released an earlier prototype.Lucky for us, there are men that do not settle for this inferior bit of lazy engineering. To these brave men, every ass tulip is but a stepping stone to our true human potential. Working day and night, sweat on their brow, to help us… Evolve.

  • matts

    J,
a ‘human’ is one characterized as having 46 chromosomes….people with down syndrome have 47 chromosome. according to the definition of a ‘human’, the unfortunate ones with down syndrome, aren’t considered humans, technically. Yes, they did not choose it, and its shame that they were born with it. But what makes you think people that are gay weren’t born gay? In fact, there is very large speculation that most homosexuals were born ‘gay’. Most weren’t born with the option. So, if you’re trying to justify having down syndrome as okay because you weren’t born with the option(most is caused by fetal alcohol syndrome…there isn’t an option parents can do to make their child gay), than being gay is okay too…because you are born gay.

  • chris

If man was born to have sex with women…. and he chooses not to, does that mean humanity has no use for him??? Lets pretend five years from now, a man discovers a cure for cancer, but is gay… did we have use for him?? I mean, why would we want a cure for cancer if it was discovered by a human who chose not to have intercourse with women??? and should we “tolerate” him?

sexual intercourse does not define people, Nor does it validate their exsistance.

And the scientific discovery of having children, without sexual intercourse, is fairly new. So to make the leap and say we are only here to procreate is fairly misguided, because women dont need to have sex to have children. And correct me if im wrong, but gay peoples sperm can still be used to fertilize a woman right???

    didnt michael jackson have kids???

  • chris

The world is getting more tolerant, diverse and accepting of other cultures and thought processes that were once to exotic for mass acceptance. Get on board Cory!!! or are you waiting for it to get trendy like tattos???

  • chris

    too*

man i hate typos… they ruin everything.
